Kanchi Periyava dedicated his life for Brahmincal dharmas ONLY. In contrast, EVR Periyar dedicated his whole life for the social justice for all irrespective of caste, religion, language...that's why he is a paramathma. Once Kanchi periyavar was travelling in a Chivigai or pallakku carried by people and the pallakku crossed a public meeting addressed by Thanthai PERIYAR. PERIYAR immediately spoke a munivar must give up every pleasure but this Kanchi Munivar is enjoing a ride on other men shoulder. On hearing that Kanchi munivar got out of the pallakku and took a oath that he will never use pallakku and only walk. A great message by Periyar and a sincere mind of PERIYAVAR ACCEPTED IT. When Kanchi Periyavar was visiting Mylapore there was a group of a Political party wanted to protest. On hearing that news Thanthai PERIYAR rushed to Mylapore and advised the party wirker to potect the Jeeyar and not to protest. The great man thats Periyar. Thanthai Periyar's approaches best fit into the modern management concept of "systems approach"..that means to achieve the goal of social justice and self respect all hurdles or threats and weakness (SWOT analysis)..must be addressed ..for example the hindu religion with the barbaric sanatana dharma and Manusmriti perpetuated for centuries caste discrimination ( temple priests and jeeyars must be a brahmin!) untouchability etc...and therefore Thanthai Periyar rejected hindu religion and promoted atheism...in essence GOD never expects us to waste milk and honey to be wasted in the name of abishegam when that milk and honey could have been donated to millions of malnurished or hungry children and poor..religious people are hypocrats. Well, EVR Periyar was a Hindu and follower of Gandhiji until 1925. Periyar was against the "varnasharam (caste based)” practice and was not convinced with the responses to this evil practice from Gandhiji or the Congress party. That and other social evils of the society made Periyar to start “Self-Respect Movement (SRM)”. SRM movement is dedicated to achieve a society where all are equal human (Casteless) and their rights (human rights) must be protected and people must have self-respect in the context of a caste-based society that considered them to be a lower end of the hierarchy. Periyar relentlessly fought for human rights, equality without discrimination based on caste, religion or gender, for widow marriage, against superstitions, abolished the Devadasi system of abusing the people who gave us Bharatha Natyam, and music, for temple entry for untouchables, fought for making all castes as priests, and many more social reforms. Globally, these principles are enshrined under the UN resolutions and all advanced and modern nations are fully committed to these dogmas of SRM. Is SRM anti-brahmin? Then let it be! According to the Bhagavadgita, a true yogi does not disturb others nor is disturbed by them. He does not create any ripples in the lives of other people or beings. He lives peacefully, without imposing himself or trying to control others. He is at peace with everyone. Practice non-violence and compassion towards other living beings. It will set you apart from animals and provide you with an opportunity to practice universal friendliness (mitrata). That is the true purpose of yoga.
