I am always impressed how shallow the footings are over in the us, over here in brazil they are about 5 times deeper at least. But we build everything out of concrete and bricks, it is really rare to find a house made out of wood.
@DDL27283 жыл бұрын
In South Louisiana, our footings are deeper than they are digging. Their building codes are obviously different than ours, too! You're in Brazil - wow!!

Lucas, we should learn how they build and try something here in Brazil. All technology behind their construction inspire us to have less wasted materials and houses with better quality. Thanks to this amazing crew!!! My third season with you guys!!! Learning everyday!!! Greetings from Brazil!!!

We used lime spread with a coffee can spread right on the line when digging footings. Then we just held one tooth on the bucket outside of the line. Hold 2 teeth if that makes you happier. lol As for the line, use a stick or better yet a 3/4x3/4 pc. for wrapping the line. top to bottom wrap, not round and round. Our lines lasted for years. We didnt check every stake with a lazer or transit/level. We pulled lines from one to another and drove them to the line. With a nail driven in the top and using a line, one guy can do it himself even without using the lazer. And we used wood stakes in order to do that. Thats how we poured our concrete floors also, no screeds. Wood stakes about 5’ apart, we raked the concrete to the stakes then used a 4’ jitterbug to flatten it out. Then bullfloat it and hand trowel when ready for finishing. Drive the stakes down a bit while finishing. We did machine trowel the larger areas. The percentage we saved on doing our own concrete was larger than the percentage we made by building the house. Same was not true by laying our own block however. OK if your just doing one house at a time, but otherwise, sub it out. Yes, you can use rebar for stakes if you prefer. lol Yes also to the highest elevation on the East coast being near Asheville NC. Even higher than Mount Washington in New Hampshire. But, if youve ever driven to the top of Mount Washington on a clear day, you will never believe thats true.

Interesting Video and thanks for the details on what you do and why. Regarding the string; Every job site ends up with broken shovel or broom handles. We used to take a couple of pieces about 10-12 inches long and we would rewind used string from a couple jobsites around those scraps so we always had a backup for future projects. I can't tell you how many times we couldn't find the roll of string or we didn't have enough and had to pull out one, or both, of those used rolls of string to get the job done. There's always someone standing around while the digging is getting done and it's a small chore to wind up the string, but it pays dividends in the long run. Everyone (primary crew members) on our crew had a roll of string in their toolboxes so we always had some whenever we had the need.
