I learn something new every I watch Perlman perform. Today's focus was vibrato, as I prepare to post my own video demonstrating how it's done. I'd love to have Perlman's vibrato right about now! Ah well, patience and perseverance, as they say :-)

Perlman shows his mastership of the Violin in this video... I smiled the whole time... I couldn't believe he would drop his arm and wait to strike the strings with such force knowing that he wouldn't make a mistake ... OPUS No. 35.. the MOST DIFFICULT and he made it seem easy!! BRAVO!! BRAVO!!!!BRAVO!!!!

I have the CD of this performance and it my favorite classical piece. There is something about the music and the incredible performance of Perlman that totally absorbs me. To see it is a real treat, What amazing control he has over the instrument and the bow. Superhuman-- or perhaps an example of what humans are capable of given the right combination of talent, training and dedication.

In all my years of listening and watching violin concertos I have NEVER seen anyone play this concerto with such vim and vigor and animation as does Perlman. His interaction with Mehta and the orchestra is unbelievable. It shows his deep love and devotion to the music he plays. May all of our future violin virtuosi be able to play with such vim and vigor.

Perfect. Absolutely perfect. IMO perlman is the best that ever lived. He may not be a technical god like Jascha Heifetz or have the sweet tone of Fritz Kreisler, but there is no one who can put their entire being into the music like Perlman does. That's why he's the best; his immense and unending musicality. Bravo!

The secret to being this good on any instrument, as anyone virtuoso will tell you..practice practice practice practice practice practice practice practice practice, and that alone is no gaurantee to greatness. It takes 2500 hrs ( @ 7 hrs/day for 1 year) to be good and then another 5000 hrs to be trully impressive on an instrument, but true greatness doesnt just come from hard practice, but it sure is a great start !

@Liebetraurig Are you talking about Perlman? He's not the first violinist - he's the SOLOIST. Big difference. First violinist usually do look at the music so they don't get lost. As for soloist, it's not that hard to memorise actually. You just keep practicing & it's usually engraved into ur brain before you know it. Either that, or you just memorise phrase by phrase. As someone said - practice, practice, practice! :p
