We are back for part 2 in Tambor, Costa Rica with a couple of our favorite botanical masters, Brendon McKeon & Christian Vargas. If you missed part 1, you can find it here -
kzbin.info/www/bejne/iILZZKN-g5d1aZI
This incredible tropical Paradise boasts quite the collection of exotic fruits, spices, flowers, herbs... plus an epic veggie garden!
Christian Vargas is a native to Costa Rica & we got the lucky chance to meet him & check out his incredible homestead, thanks to Brendon McKeon of Natural Living Designs & Eco Oasis' KZbin channel. Brendon co-hosts this tour as a great friend to Christian & not only is he our trusty translator, but he is the mastermind behind Natural Living Designs, a permaculture development design & build firm.
If you have questions, or would like to be in contact with Brendon, you can send an email to him at: brendon@naturallivingdesigns.com

Brendon is very lucky to have Christian as a friend. This is priceless. Revelation 22:2 King James Version (KJV) 2 In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.

Hey guys, FYI on the Jicara, Guacal, Calabash, (Morro) fruit, the beans inside are used in" El Salvador, CA " to make the most delicious tasting HORCHATA, drink you'll have ever had. here are the instructions " get beans, out of the fruit by cutting the fruit in half (beans look just like flat coffee beans) Sun, dry the seeds for three to four weeks. once dried remove the thin pulp by rubbing them in your hands against themselves and done ready for roasting. Slow roast them in a "Comal" (larch flat plate made out of Clay" or flat metal sheet until they are light brown in color (don't burn them) just as what you would do with Cacao beans. once you roast them let them cool down for an hour or so, then put them into a blender with water add sugar if desired. The outer Shell of the fruit can be carved completely clean and Sun, dry un till it turns real light brown and is nice and hard to make drinking bowls that will last a life time. fi you are interested to see what the Morro, fruit looks like and he Beans, Google Image, " Morro Nutt and Morro, seeds.

At about 7:00 he describes the vine growing at the corner of the chicken pen which produces a "sack of potatoes". It is Dioscorea Trifida, also known as Yampi in Spanish. It produces a cluster of true tropical yams maybe one pound or so each. They are exported into the US from Costa Rica and are available at Hispanic grocery stores. You will usually find them with wax on the upper part of the tubers which looks like a "neck", that is to preserve them to keep them from drying out.

Howdy, thank you for your videos. I watch so many, however I kinda feel bummed with this episode since I am believer in permaculture, and when I saw how the bees were treated, it was depressing. I know it's no one's place to tell people you visit how to live, but I feel that as the person recording and sharing messages, to be aware of what message we want to give and be more thoughtful in sharing how we want other people to take care of our planet and natural resources in harmony. My feedback is not meant to create any disrespect, just sharing that as a viewer, it's great to see content that supports more permaculture and less "man dominating land and animals" which can sometimes be blurred with homesteaders. Cheers my friend. And again thank you for putting all this work in sharing.

Good question with the produce, I'm guessing is mostly for personal consumption seeing how busy Brendon keeps him. With that said where does he get the time to keep this place up?!? No, this was the last one with Christian, we do feature another Tico farmer later in this series.

Hello! I'd check out seed pirates, I think they deliver all over the world. Mostly rare fruit trees, perennials and annuals might be tough.

I also live in the Caribbean and I order from trade winds fruit nursery. They have great germination rate. Just make sure your islands rules on bringing seeds in. Or get someone to bring them for you.
