Very interesting concept!!! What kind of water do you add to this set up? Does it have nutrients in it? Just tap water? How often do you water? Are you still doing this? Thank you very much!!!

Love it! Thanks. I especially like the part where you say the scraps can go in whole. "The worms have nothing else to do all day!" "They'll figure it out"....funny😁

+TigerLily Gzz Nice to hear from you. I recently posted a video where I show a redesign of this pot to get better wicking action and fewer visits by pests. If you would like to see the video, just follow the link provided in the description.

Excellent demo...you are a good teacher. How are the plants doing?...does it work?

Hi Matti, so far, so good. The plants are perky and look happy but I planted them just a couple of weeks ago. I will post an update closer to harvest time so you can see how everything turned out. I have set up a total of 5 self-feeding + self-watering totes into which I planted beans, peas, kale, bok choi, and spinach.

Daniel where do you get your draining baskets? Thanks!
@DanielCatalaa9 жыл бұрын
+Blanche-Marie Couture I get them at HomeDepot where they are called "6 in. Polyolefin Atrium Grate". They go for about US$ 8 and you can find them in the plumbing section. They feel very sturdy, like they will last a long time.

Guess that pipe needs some more thorough smoothing - i see lots of sharp shavings inside the holes and on the inside of the tube. Some lid on the tube to keep flies away maybe?
@DanielCatalaa9 жыл бұрын
+VasilyKiryanov Hi Vasily, as it turned out I did spend some additional time off camera removing the sharp shavings, but it was still a bit rough. In the new design I increased the size of the holes from 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch and I also incorporated your suggestion to use a lid because the fruit flies did show up! In the description I provided a link to video where I created an updated version of the pot. Have a great day!

When do the worms get added?
@DanielCatalaa7 жыл бұрын
Hi Damon, I add the earthworms at the beginning, when I initially set up the containers. As long as you occasionally add food scraps for the earthworms (through the vertical white PVC pipe), the worms will stick around and provide nutrition for the plants.
@mahgarcia359 жыл бұрын
can you add worms also?
@DanielCatalaa7 жыл бұрын
Most defintely; I would recommend adding earthworms because this will accelerate the break down of the food scraps that are added through the vertical white tube. There is also abundant moisture in the soil so the earthworms are likely to stay in the container and multiply.
