Thank you for this Lisa! ♥️ You are an inspiration! A lot of times, I use the ruler to find my clients’ points B and C. I’m glad I’m not the only one. I thought I was weird and was afraid to admit it LOL 😃. I agree, raising the brows and squinting REALLY help determining symmetry. I didn’t realize how important it is to take a video with the brow design. And after brow mapping, I will definitely ask my clients to stand up next time. Thank you for sharing your tips. Ive learned something new. Thank you for taking your time to have this video up. I am forever grateful ♥️ I do videos too and it takes a lot of time and effort.

Yasss!!! finally!! A MUA and a PMU applied the same principles in getting browshapes! that is also my concern because I am a MUA, and our brow mapping has been tested before. not eyeballing the measures, but giving it a personalized shape in regards to the clients facial structure!! awesome!! more videos here!! I am a new in PMU so I would love to follow you and your awesome tips!❤️❤️

Yas girl! That's exactly what I mean about mapping tools can be helpful but can't be be relied on exclusively start to finish. Every shape is custom to the client and involves more factors than just numbers and measurements. For me, it's the artistry aspects that makes the process so fun and exciting. A little tweek here...little adjustment there can legit change the whole look! Thanks for the follow, make sure to join the PMU Secrets Facebook group too if you haven't already. This is such a wonderful video. Please continue to create content and not click baity stuff that is out there. This was so great! No other PMU on YT even comes close.
@lisale_brows3 жыл бұрын
YES girl! I was/am always the one in class wanting to do it differently! I know some great artists who love it, but the string was always just too awkward, messy, and overly complicated for me. The beauty of artistry is it doesn't matter what route you take to create a beautiful result! Thanks so much for the feedback and words of encouragement. Definitely more videos to come (I have so much great content to edit/upload). In the meantime, make sure to join our free group and check out the "guides" section posted there (link in the description of this vid).

You are amazing 😭. I struggled so much using all the tools that I was taught to use on pmu school but can do pretty good brows with just a pencil in 15 minutes. Sticking to the techinque by 100% while having to use ALL the tools was so annoying and stressing. Watching you make a mix of both(tools and your own hands) has made me understand brow mapping so much better. I'll start using your techinque from now on.
@lisale_brows Жыл бұрын
Hey Alexandra thanks for your comment! I was the same way! I found it just so annoying and frustrating using string. I'm all for tools if they can help an artist get to their initial shape faster, but in the end I believe it always comes down to training/trusting your eye to create a shape that in unique to the client. Its those extra steps and extra artistry that goes into custom brow design and end up making your results stand out above the rest! Glad this video resonated and gave you permission to create your own technique that allows your creativity and artistic style to shine through! ❤❤❤

Question: for PMUs-do you powder/microblade/apply ink over the china penciled area inside the ‘outlined’ area? I’ve found the numbing crème takes away all the hard work of mapping. Any tips on that?

@lisale_brows5 жыл бұрын
vmata3 It’s just a “China pencil”. There’s different brands you can find everywhere (amazon is easy). The brand doesn’t matter much to me tbh. I find I prefer pencils that are a little more on the dry side and not as waxy. For concealer I just look for 3 different shades of brown I can blend to match the clients skin. I like concealer with a creamy consistency that’s not too runny but not thick like paste. Try a few different options out and see what works best for you! 💜

Tools are great to get a quick and basic shape to work with. The artistry is what gets you to the perfect flattering shape for each individual client. IMO overuse and reliance on tools becomes a crutch that limits an artist's ability to let their skill and creativity shine.

Would you please share with me how you proceed after you are all done shaping the eyebrows, you penciled them in, but we cannot microblade over all that pencil. And do you numb before mapping? Thank you.
@lisale_brows4 жыл бұрын
Hi Judy! I start the tattooing process by removing small sections of the pencil & concealer with a q-tip dipped in alcohol. I continue in small vertical segments across the brow until I have a feint outline. My approach to numbing is “less is more”. Every client is different but I try to get away with no numbing if possible. Keep in mind this is highly dependent on technique. I specialize in ombré powder brows and wouldn’t advise using the same strategies for microblading. 💜

Hey Priscilla! The pencil brand isn’t real important to me. You can find these “china pencils” on amazon. I find I prefer pencils that are a little more dry and not as waxy. I always suggest trying out a few different kinds and seeing what works best for you. If you find you're having difficulty with the numbing cream messing up your drawing, try creating a feint outline before you apply any numbing. Usually the client can tolerate this well. My method for this is to use a q-tip dipped in witch hazel to wipe small vertical sections of the drawing clean (we don't want to tattoo any foreign material like pencil or concealer into the skin), then I tattoo a very light outline where I see my shape should be. Then I proceed to work my entire way across the brow in these small vertical sections until I have a complete outline. Check out the "GUIDES" section of our PMU Secrets Facebook group for more detail on outline tips! Hope this helps! 💜

How high is the highest point of the eyebrows, suppsing that the person hasn't eyebrows? Thank you

Hey Alexandra! 1) The brand isn’t real important to me. You can find these “china pencils” on amazon. I prefer pencils that are a little more dry and not as waxy. You can also go to your local makeup store and play with some options. Try out a couple different brands and see what you find works best for you! One of the biggest keys is to have a good sharpening technique that makes a nice clean/straight edge. I will make a video on how to sharpen your pencils soon! 2) For a client with no brow hair I will use my mapping lines as a guide, and adjust as necessary. Mapping can only guide you to a proper general shape, for a fully custom brow that flatters the clients face we must use our artistry in creating a brow shape to bring balance, harmony, and symmetry to the clients unique features. It's normal to make adjustments at the end when you are optimizing your final choice of shape. 3) This will depend entirely on the client's face shape, bone structure, facial symmetry, muscle mass, and desired look. Hope this helps! 💜

But okay I understand how one brow bone being more prominent so exactly what did you change to make it perfect for the final outcome? I can slightly tell but i just want to make sure! Thanks so much and loved it ☺️
@lisale_brows3 жыл бұрын
I'm so glad it was helpful for you! The first step was to decide which shape was best suited for the client. Taking into account her lifestyle and makeup preference we decided on the more conservative shape (her left brow). Next I started to slowly adjust the right brow to be more like the left by bringing the arch down a bit and building up slightly on the bottom line. This made the right brow appear a little less dramatic and more complimentary to the left brow's conservative style we were shooting for. Lastly, I had her raise her brows, squint, and smile. The goal is to balance the shape around her natural movement (we move our brows A LOT in our everyday interactions). As you can see in the video, her left brow was a tiny bit higher when she raised her brows, yet it was a little lower when she squinted. This is the balance I was looking for. If one brow was higher when raising AND still higher when squinting I would have adjusted my shape little by little to bring it into alignment. Hope this helps!

Can you make another video with another model just as a recap? I loved this video but wanted to see how you fixed it?
@lisale_brows4 жыл бұрын
Hi Alaina! Defiantly. I think mapping is one of those things that requires studying and practicing on lots of different face/brow shapes. I'm really looking forward to doing more of these videos showing the how specific things get to each individual face. The process I go through to fix the imbalances is basically whats shown here in the video. I visualize the imperfections first by sitting them up, standing them up, having them make different facial expressions, and taking photos/videos. Once I see where the imbalances are I can start to fix them by adding or removing tiny bits here and there to change the overall shape whether it be length, thickness, arch, etc. The goal is finding the balance across all the positions and movement. Then I repeat the process of visualization again. Hope that helps!

@lisale_brows2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Aracely! These are just basic "China pencils", to be honest I don't remember where I got the exact ones I'm using in the video - but what I look for in any brow pencil is a consistency that is not too waxy. I would suggest just go to a makeup store, or even Target (a good pencil doesn't have to be expensive) and play with some different pencils. I like to have 3 different shades of brown to accommodate a variety of skin tones. Another tip is to make sure you get them really sharp and uniform. I use a box cutter to get my edge as straight, flat, and sharp as possible. I'm planning on making a video specifically on pencil sharpening soon. Hope this helps!

I always suggest trying out a few different kinds and seeing what works best for you. Sometimes the most important part is just getting a nice, clean and flat edge.

Lisa! You're amazing thank you for sharing your technique.. I'm new to doing PMU. And I have a hard time doing the mapping and when inapply num cream on.. When I wipe them off my outline is coming off too.. What would you suggest on pencil or anything please?🙏

Thanks! If you're having trouble losing your shape I suggest wiping only a small vertical section and tattooing a feint outline. Then repeat with another small section until you work your way across the entire brow. Hope that helps!

What an excellent well made video! Thank you for sharing your expertise and explaining these important aspects of brow mapping. Can I ask how you properly clean your brushes used for the concealer?
@lisale_brows5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Dana! Most makeup brush cleaners are antibacterial, but just as a precaution I clean my brushes with a germicidal solution called Envirocide. The contact time is about 2 minutes to ensure microorganisms like Hep B and HIV are killed.

It’s just a “China pencil”. There’s different brands you can find everywhere (amazon is easy). The brand doesn’t matter much to me tbh. I find I prefer pencils that are a little more on the dry side and not as waxy, so try out a couple different kinda and see what you like best. Thanks for the sub! More to come.

Love 💕 this video! For some reason it’s so much easier this way. Thank you! How do I keep my brow mapping after the numbing cream?
@lisale_brows3 жыл бұрын
You're so welcome! I've really focused on developing my technique to be super gentile to the skin yet still push as much saturation as needed. This allows me to use anesthetic very sparingly and dont often need to pre-numb. I do this for several reasons - which I think would be a great topic for a future video. One benefit is I dont run into any issue with losing my shape.

What pencil is that? I need it! Can you please share where you got it?
@lisale_brows2 жыл бұрын
Hey Michelle! These exact pencils are only sold in professional beauty supplies stores that typically aren't open to the public. But what I look for is a pencil that is a bit more on the dry side and not too waxy. I always suggest trying out a few different brands and seeing what works best for you. It doesn't have to be anything fancy or expensive, sometimes simple is better!

Lisa, is the ruler helping you when the client’s nose isn’t straight, or not quite centered?
@lisale_brows3 жыл бұрын
Great question! When the nose isnt centered, we then use the center of the nose bridge and adjust accordingly. The best way to confirm if its the most flattering shape is having them stand and take a video of them 3 feet away. This distance helps the client understand how they appear to another person. Most of the time we are in front of a mirror about 6-12 inches away and this is not a realistic way to judge how our brows look on us. Educating your client on this is key. Good luck!

Hi Heather! I'm in awe of your resiliance and inspired by your determination! Rooting for you to come back stronger than ever! For brow pencils, the brand isn’t real important to me. You can find these “china pencils” on amazon or any makeup department, they arent fancy. What matters most to me when working with pencil is that they are a little more dry and not too waxy. Some are very waxy and hard to get clean lines with. Try out a couple different brands and see what you find works best for you!

Thanks Joanna! Yes, I specialize in ombre powder brows and it's all I prefer to offer at my studio as I feel it leads to the best results for the vast majority of clients. I book out 2 hours for new clients - 30min each side for the procedure, 30min shaping, and 30min extra for photos, aftercare instruction, etc.

Hi Lisa! Just wondering, do you prefer having your clients on the chair than using a flat bed? I know you were a makeup artist before so maybe you are used to it and prefer it. I may need to get a chair now lol.
@lisale_brows4 жыл бұрын
Hey babe! Great question. I prefer in a chair with their back straight because as I'm mapping their brows they usually are talking to me and allowing me to see how their facial muscles naturally move. Every curvature, every quark such as how one brow raises higher than the other when they express themselves...all these little nuances will come out with them in the chair. I totally agree that the process can feel much easier and less awkward for the artist if the client is laying down, but I feel like it causes us to miss out on this opportunity to learn about our client's unique features.

I had hair stroke removal done on a part of my eyebrow, which resulted in dented scar. I'm using Mederma per the salon's recommendation. Have you done hair stroke removal before and you know if the scar will be back to normal in a few months?
@lisale_brows3 жыл бұрын
Hey luv. With removal there are many variables that will influence the end result. Things like skin type, how deep the pigment was deposited, and what method of removal was used will play a big role. The main goal is to make the skin happy again (reduce inflammation and let the skin recover) and do what you can to treat the resulting scar tissue. Give it time and try not to freak out (I know that can be a challenge). Hope that helps!
