I bought the Sawyer, as well, however since I am only spraying 3 things, the 24 oz bottle should be fine. I’m surprised that since it says to avoid direct contact with your skin that you did not wear long sleeves and long pants and take a shower after spraying. Do you recommend spraying your tent, or since you are inside it would be better not to treat it? What about treating the rent footprint?

Long sleeves are certainly a good idea. I know some folks with livestock have it very directly on the skin a lot, which doesn’t seem like a great idea! I wouldn’t worry too much about the tent fly or footprint, but the mesh inner would be what I would treat. That would reduce the risk of interfering with waterproofing and really impact where bugs would be able to get to you and get in (and potentially kill any bugs that do get in).

Will treating your clothing deter them bugs from your head area? Or do you still need to spray repellent there?

How effective is something like this really? It sounds like snake oil but it seems like you've been doing it a while

I've had good luck using permethrin so far. The trip I took right after filming this was pretty buggy, and I didn't get a single mosquito bite, so I'd say it's pretty effective. I'm about to try out a new formulation that claims to be effective for 6 months, and I plan to test that thoroughly, especially against ticks. I will put a couple on my clothing periodically to see how it goes, since they're easy to find around here once the rain kicks up.
