Just in time! My Statistics exam is on Thursday and by far the most difficult part to understand was Permutations and Combinations, I just watched the whole series and with a little bit of practice, I'll be great in it. Thanks Mr. Stuart! :)

What do you mean when you say N and T's are together. Do they have to be NNTT or can they be mixed, say NTTN ?

Can you please help with this question: The 4 tenors and 4 basses in the group stand in a single line with all the tenors next to each other and all the basses next to each other. How many possible arrangements are there if three of the tenors refuse to stand next to any of the basses?

Is the book example correct? Why can't the remaining 5 books (2 red, 3 blue) be organised between themselves and so why don't you divide by 3! and 2!. Sure you're right but I'm a bit confused by this. Thanks, for any help.

I see what you mean but the intension was to restrict them to both ends.
@malm30483 жыл бұрын
in the second question why cant we place each two red books on each end like 4,3,3,2,1,2,1 where 4,3 and 2,1 at ends are for red books and 3,2,1 for blue so we get in total 144 ?

But couldn't the men also sit at the very end for example WWWMM or MMWWW because it says they must sit on the ends, not both ends?

IN THE SECOND QUESTION SHOULDN'T 1440 BE MULTIPLIED BY 2? BECAUSE YOU CAN SWITCH THE TWO RED BOOKS AT THE ENDS?
@ExamSolutions_Maths10 жыл бұрын
I took that into account by saying 4x3 The result of 4P2

How can you fit 5 blue books, when you're given only 3 blue books? And what about the rest of the 2 red books other than the ones on the two ends? Do we just not use them? @ExamSolutions
