Between 1944 and 1950 Como starred in his own NBC radio show, The Chesterfield Supper Club, which from 1948 was also televised. By this time Como was one of the most popular singers in the country. The Perry Como Show, a 15-minute variety show, began appearing three times a week on CBS in 1950. This was a major hit for Perry Como in 1973, hE was about 60 years old. Many years ago in his early 80's he did an Irish Show in Ireland, for PBS, and in the middle he sang this song. His voice was old and faltering, but when he belted out the middle part ["And yes I know how lonely life can be..."] in full voice, the crowd went nuts, cheers and applause, some with tears in their eyes including mine at home. Mom loved his voice. For a brief moment, the young Perry Como was back. It was very moving.

Perry Como had the most number one hits of any recording artist in recording history! Thankyou, it's about time someone is playing his music especially for the young people who have never heard of him before. This is a Don McClean's song that Perry Como covered and was number one in the UK charts from 1973 -1975 and hit number one here in the United States too. Elvis Presley also recorded "And I Love You So" because he was a very good friend of Perry Como and he admired his music a lot. Perry Como and Elvis Presley both played Las Vegas sometimes at the same time in the early 70s and Elvis would sometimes go watch Perry perform his show when he wasn't on stage himself. Elvis also covered and recorded "It's Impossible" another number one Perry Como song. Elvis Presley loved Perry Como as did everybody back in the day.

My absolute favorite of his (my top 10 romantic love songs of every genre) is entitled, "It's Impossible." The melody was written by a Mexican born composer who was honored in the US Latin Composers Hall of Fame back in the day and my lyrics in English were written by a composer who was famous for writing a number of songs for Elvis.🔥 Perry Como has a uniquely smooth voice and is an early crooner legend. ❤ Other "crooners" are Nat King Cole, Johnny Mathis, Smokey Robinson, Bing Crosby....

This Masterpiece is from 1971-------------and, because I KNOW you 2 have listened to him, it will not surprise to tell you this is a Don McLean composition. Perry was 74 y/o when he recorded this. The man had a career of 40+ years. In the 50's, &60's, Saturday Night on NBC at 8 PM in Denver, it was Mr C --------The Perry Como Show. MY Dad----------and Mom, when my Brother & I spent time with her--------both, LOVED that show, & never missed it. -----------------SO--------" CROONERS " were generally male singers who sang in night clubs, lounges, & " crooned a tune ", to the ladies. THE best ever : Mr Tony Bennett--------Mr Nat King Cole-------Mr Billy Eckstine --------Mr Dean Martin-------Mr Sinatra-------Englebert Humperdink-----Matt Monro-------and yes, Mr Perry Como. IMO. The ladies were simply referred to as " singers " , though many also began in Night clubs & lounges. --------IMO-------Jo Stafford is the very best--------Miss Nancy Wilson, also-----THE legend, Lady Ella Fitzgerald--------Billie Holiday, Ethel Waters------Dorothy Dandridge-------The gorgeous Joni James--------Rosemary Clooney [ George's Aunt ] ------------Barbara McNair------& of course, " Babs " : Ms Barbra Streisand. ---------To name a few. Jo Stafford, Nancy Wilson, & Joni James are my favorites .-------------------MJL, 77 y/o

That's a cool one about a guy falling in love with a store window mannequin. These are just a few recommendations has many more.Don't let the tag of easy listening fool you, quite a few of the songs are upbeat and catchy. Gotta get into some Andy Williams also.

One of the earliest crooners was Bing Crosby. There was a supposed "rivalry" between him and Bob Hope. Hope called him not a crooner but a "groaner." One of the better and popular crooners of the 30s was Russ Columbo. He was a real rival to Bing Crosby but sadly died from an accidental gunshot wound only a few years after his career began. He was 26.

No too bad for a guy who was a barber. I loved watching him as a young girl. So dreamy. "Crooner is a term used to describe primarily male singers who performed using a smooth style made possible by better microphones which picked up quieter sounds and a wider range of frequencies, allowing the singer to access a more dynamic range and perform in a more intimate manner."

You closed with "Bing Crosby. I don't know who that is." Oh no. He was the definitive crooner. Every crooner was influenced by him. Dean Martin did many duets with him. One of Dean's songs was "If I Could Sing Like Bing." Wonderful. Anyway, Mister C, was a class act. He was true gentleman. I much prefer listening to him rather than Frank Sinatra. You should check out his humorous song "If I Could Almost Read Your Mind." Next month Perry would be 111. He and Bobby Vinton are from the same town, "Canonsburg, Pa.

Crosby was the first major singer to understand just how significantly the improved microphone changed the entire possibilities in using the voice to communicate to the audience. You no longer had to stand back and shout at the mic in order to be heard, or to record. In their defense, the shouters were just doing what singers had had to do for thousands of years pre-technology, so it came naturally to them to carry that style over in the teens and twenties. Crosby dropped the volume, got closer to the mic with a more intimate style, and crooning was born.
