For me, this was the true final boss. Yaldaboath was more of a "tying up loose ends" arc. Shido was Joker's prime reason for everything he fought for and the driving force of the game. I also liked how Shido wasn't an OP god, just a normal guy who had money, power and connections.

Yeah but JRPG antagonists are never the true boss. A prime example of this from one of my favorite games of all time is Golbez from FF4. You finally beat him and turns out a dude named Zeromus is the boss. You can call it loose ends if you want but without it, the plot wouldn't have made sense. Why was Joker and Akechi made tricksters? Why is Morgana here? Why did Igor change voices? The voice and butterfly from the beginning (Lavenza), etc. It was always a planned point. Lavenza and the butterfly in the first 10 minutes makes that clear.

Shido's was definitely more dramatic. I remember when he pulled out three phases on that mount of his that represented the faceless masses who support him. Then he pulled out a second AND THEN THIRD PHASE of his own fight. The surprises just kept coming and at the end I thought he was going to pull out a fourth phase before he gave up and collapsed.

It makes sense though, it plays during the first Shido Phase whenever he is only using the masses of people as Power instead of his own, so you don’t see his “true form”. It also plays during the first phase of the Holy Grail fight where you cannot kill him, since he is only using a fraction of his power that comes from the people who have accepted him as their fake god.
