What I love most about this song is that it's daigetic in the world of persona. In persona 1 and 2 the song was sang and performed by two people named belladonna and nameless. They haven't appeared since persona 2 but their song still echoes throughout the series to this day

Plus the song has lore purposes as well. Since it is what helps summon the personas. in the first few games at least

So your question about where this song originates is a little funny, because you essentially got introduced to each version in the "reverse" order that most people would. This theme, as your friend had mentioned, plays in the Velvet Room. The Velvet Room is a location present across all Persona titles (yes, even the first 2 games) where you fuse Personas (the demons that you use to fight enemies in the series), so throughout your playthrough you end up visiting it quite a lot! This version of the song you heard here was actually introduced in Persona 3. It's identical across Persona 3, 4, 5 and spinoffs, while the versions in Persona 1 and 2 were a bit different and more piano focused, but they were all composed and arranged by Shoji Meguro even way back then. Now, that's a really important part of it because as you know, the composition was revisited in The Battle for Everyone's Souls, which plays at the final boss for Persona 3. In other words, they introduced this new version of the song in P3 in a place you'd casually hear somewhat frequently across your playthrough, and then you'd get hit with an epic version of it at the very end of the game. The singer is Haruko Komiya, by the way. As far as I can remember, to date this is the only composition she has been involved with in the series.

The Velvet Room is a hub where the player goes to get new personas and strengthen other personas they already have. It's also a place for you to undertake special sidequests involving acquiring, fusing personas or even challenging enemies with certain rules. It's based on Edgar Allan Poe's poem "The Masque of Red Death", and it's denizens are also named after characters that appear in that poem - Elizabeth, Margaret, Lavenza, Justine, Caroline and Theodore, to name a few. It appeared in everysingle Persona game to date. The previous versions where just a single loop and after that, Clair de Lune would play. The version you heard was the same exact rendition of the song in Persona 3, that's been around since 2006.

The denizens are named after characters in Frankenstein. For instance - Elizabeth Frankenstein's maiden name was Lavenza.
@luciohernandez22839 ай бұрын
I didn’t know about the names. That’s a crazy fact thanks!
@itsjonesh9 ай бұрын
@@Skraith You're right! I was under the impression that they were characters from the poem, since a lot of the Velvet Room by itself is from Masque of Red Death. My mistake!
@orangejuice32359 ай бұрын
The main character in Poe's Red Death is literally the only character given a name, so I don't know where you got that from. The poem is only ten pages, so you can check it yourself. The names of the attendants are definitely from Frankenstein.

This song means so much to me. It used to creep me out at first but the way it sounds so haunted is beautiful. It’s like the song has a whole life story on its own, of familiarity and peace, the ups and downs and complexity of emotions, falling from a high place and starting from scratch, uncertain but continuing to move forward. it’s so full of the human experience. Not only are you changing and growing as a person by fusing your personas, you’re literally taking inspiration from these myths and legends to help you through your journey. You are connecting with all sorts of stories and tales that describe the human experience, whether it’s our purpose, society, relationships, emotions, fears, or struggles. I think that’s something really special and embodied in this song.

"Welcome to the Velvet Room." -Igor, voiced by Isamu Tanonaka (1932 - 2010. Rest in peace) This theme has evolved throughout the series, having other themes on P1 and both P2s, but his most popular one was released within Persona 3 as it had the most impact on the entire series, and stayed in the following games as a result, spinoffs included. The only other song that achieved something similar, although not even close, was the actual Persona theme. This also means that if this song was to get remixed in something new, it's usually for a pretty good reason; The Battle for Everyone's Souls being quite an example. With that said, if you wanna revisit this song in particular, here are some suggestions. -Blues & Electronica in the Velvet Room: Bonus tracks within Persona 3 and 4. The last one was also put on the Dancing games. -Margaret theme (Persona 4 Arena Ultimax): So yeah, P4 had also a fighting game, with a unique remix for Margaret. Elizabeth was also featured, but she took the P3 final boss theme instead. -Aria of the Soul (Super Smash Bros Ultimate): Not only P5 took over Smash by surprise, but it also embraced this theme with its own style. And even so, this is recognized as the only track on that game from Persona 1. -Poem for Everyone's Souls (Persona Arrange Album): My personal favorite. The arrange was made to empower some of the songs that were introduced on the original game and prevailed in the remake, and I must say, the work they did with the Velvet Room theme, even within other arranges from before and after, is quite magnificent.

Ah yes, the one song that's burned into every single Persona player's memories for the rest of their lives. This exact song has been used in Persona 3, 4, and 5 (and probably every spinoff of those three, but I'm not sure of that), and it's an updated version of a song that's been present since Persona 1. Imagine if, in Pokemon, you mashed 2 or more of your Pokemon together to form new ones. This is the core mechanic of Persona, and this is the song that plays in the "Velvet Room," the place where you spend a LOT of time fusing your personas together. Thus, every player has heard this song for DOZENS of hours, at least. It is, CERTAINLY, the most recognizable song to any Persona player, and it's been used as a leitmotif in several others. It's really cool that you finally get to to hear it. :)

Every Persona game there is the Velvet Room and every time this beautiful theme by various different names is there to once again to give us a spot of peace and calm before we once more have to face the world. (The Velvet Room btw is a hub area 'between mind and matter, dream and reality' where the protagonists fuse their Persona and make stronger ones; the Velvet Room itself changes form based on the minds of its guests -P3 was an elevator going endlessly upwards, P4 was a limo with all the fanciness and drinks, P5 was a prison where the protag was locked away etc- but it's always very blue in color and always has Igor, the master of the room, patiently sitting there and waiting to be of use along with one of his various assistants. Given the way Igor and his assistants 'usually' describe the Velvet Room just popping in to cool your head a bit and listen to the music is a totally valid use of the room too so yeah, its a great place and I love it and wish more games made their hubs so welcoming
