I am an old guy, 72 years old, and have lived in Colorado most of my life. I can say with assurance that I have never seen streams here that are that pretty. Is that stream representative of many streams in North Carolina? Truely beautiful water and beautiful fish. Is the stream in the Asheville area? I love seeing places like this because it takes my concepts about the world and destroys them. Really beautiful! Thanks

Thanks so much for taking time to watch! While many streams in North Carolina are quite beautiful and clear, I feel like the one from this video is particularly beautiful with very clear, almost blue water. I often comment to my friends and family how beautiful the water is there when I return home from a day of fishing. It’s not all that close to Asheville-I bet it’s a couple of hours or more west of there.

They don't get that big in the wild. This is a delayed harvest stream, meaning it's a stocker. I've caught a few in the 5-7 pound range on a famous rafting river here...

@@Michael65429 you’re right-absolutely a stocker. But still a cool catch and my personal best so I was crazy excited. On the other hand my personal best native brookie is about 11-12 inches and I was ecstatic!!!!

Love the videos! I had a fun day over on the Davidson yesterday, but decided I need to revamp my nymphing and have been wanting to try tight lining. Any advice on set-up/gear and technique? Are you just using an extra long leader and tippet for the most part?

Nice! Glad it was a good day. As far as tight line nymphing goes, you can technically add longer leader and sighter material to any rod and turn it into a tight line setup; however, I found this quite difficult until I got a more sensitive rod. Ultimately I finally purchased an orvis Clearwater 10’ 3wt rod that I still use to this day. Looking back, it has been a perfect setup to learn on and grow with over the last few years. It is a great combo of value at a good price point. You can get a package that comes with a reel already setup with euro fly line, leader and sighter so you have a good setup from the beginning-all you have to do is add tippet to the tippet ring and hit the water. The leader and sighter that come on it are thicker, so it makes it easy to see initially when you are starting off. Ultimately, as you become more comfortable, you can start building your own leaders and even go down in size to micro leaders if you choose. Sorry for the long winded response-hope this helps!
