They didn’t kill it. When they are truly elite dancers in heels, then they would be at the level of the Solid Gold Dancers. The tricks they did in heels is still that of legends in Hollywood!
@marshamoore1004 жыл бұрын
This was a very stylized piece and I think the dancers did well. I was particularly impressed with the beginning--the play on the Asian “ThousNd Hands” dance. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that incorporated into a routine from an American studio. Very creative fusion of cultures!

I loved this but I also wanted it to go harder. The music is so intense & I sensed insecurity possibly coming from the risk of falling over in high heels? If I were to choreograph this I think I'd leave out the heels and let the dancers express harder without them, and give them some more symbolic choreo like there was in the beginning. Strong technique, though, and excellent formations, spacing, and synchronization. Obviously they're all excellent dancers.
@brightfeatherdesigns4 жыл бұрын
I saw the same thing, and wonder if the choreography was written for a larger stage? Having to moderate strides for a shortened distance would account for a lot of the lack of "snap" to their strides, etc, and kept the overall energy down. It's hard to go all out when you are constantly having to remind yourself to go small or run out of stage...

Strong group number and strong talented group of dancers but there were parts that felt flat and left me bored and wanting more coming from someone who has studied and continues to train and teach dance. The beginning is powerful and the arm articulation middle to end is very solid but the end could benefit from stronger phrase work my opinion. Love the song choice. Great job dancers.

Nice routine but, even though they were on beat, they lacked “rhythm”. They would do good to incorporate syncopation into their movements. It’s the tiny movements that are done between the beats that make u one with the music.

Can you recoommend a video of what you mean by syncopation? Thanks
@gregorythomas44704 жыл бұрын
Serero Serera Sure. I’ve tried to search for something that would provide a good illustration. I think I’ve come up with one. Search for “The jacksons Motown 25” performance. At 2 minutes the adult brothers take the stage. By this time they have had a lifetime of experience performing with each other and understand their strengths and weaknesses. One not so secret secret is the fact that Jermain, who will be on the far right holding his guitar, in Purple pants next to Michael, has always struggled as a dancer. In this footage they try to hide him, however in a few sequences he is exposed. Specifically in the opening seconds of their routine. If you compare his stiff movements to that of Michael and Jackie, who is in the center in the green jacket, you’ll catch a clear glimpse of a lack of syncopation. Notice how the other two move their entire body. Allowing the motion of their shoulders, hips and feet to follow the rapid rhythm of the high hat and snare drums while the rest of their body executed the main dance steps in rhythm with the kick drum. This rocking of the hips and shoulders is primary syncopation. Michael, being a genius, you’ll notice executes SECONDARY syncopation using his head and neck and by lifting his entire body off the ground in time with the music. Others things such as a subtle flick of the wrist or a slight exaggeration of a kick are also forms of syncopation. Remember, we can program a robot to move in time, but it takes soul to dance. Let the music live inside you and it’ll move your soul as it leaves. 👍🏾
@gregorythomas44704 жыл бұрын
Serero Serera After watching your video again I see the a number of you move with rhythm and energy. I’m my initial viewing my eyes were drawn to the ones who didn’t. This is common human nature and I will call it a flaw on my part. It wasn’t fair to focus on the weakest links in a performance that actually was quite good.

Not what I was expecting... This choreography is pretty weak. They walk around and stand doing basically nothing most of the time. I was expecting something more hardcore. From 2:01 on, for a few seconds it looked like it would pick up, and be an actual DANCING TO THE MUSIC type of thing, but it waned down again quickly...

They did a nice job but this song is incredibly sensual and they could have turned their moves upwards quite a bit without getting raunchy and still tying better into the music. I think they missed the boat but they did a really great job. I think they might have picked a better song to fit their modest moves.

It wasn’t as hedonistic as it could’ve been. If more Fosse type gesture were included into this piece, along with some slaps on the ground, arms, hand and wrist gesturing, with some pelvic thrust in the beginning would’ve have giving it the full experience I as an audience e member was looking for. It had been reduced from an R rated dance to a PG rated one. The fist chakra was silenced from this dance piece. They might as well have been dressed as nuns, because the females were just moving mannequins on stage. Lifeless and soulless corpses. It was like watching a run way show on fashion week. But perhaps that was the choreographers intent.
