Difference in velocity. Liberty is an ammo sponsor for my reviews. While chatting with my rep, he told me that 2000fps was the PROJECTED velocity, and they had their boxes printed and shipped before their final tests came in at 2100fps+. They decided to package their ammo with the lesser fps, since people usually aren't upset with a better than stated performance. So, no, your chrono is not off, the ammo is just hotter than what's printed on the box.

You have adjustable sights, don't you? Practice is practice, adjust your sights if it is that big a deal. I just shoot 2 groups, if that is the case. With the zeroes group the carry ammo. Concentrate on group size (trigger control...) not where it hits at in this situation. If its 4" to the right and low, big deal, that's not going to hurt the stuff you are using when needed, which will be dead on.
@himawaricopter4 жыл бұрын
@@thatguy22441 iirc years ago were complaints about the early batches of their HV ammo that the velocity was 5-10% lower than advertised, so I think this might have been to address that.

Better to under state velocity than over state it. They do this with expiration dates on food. Obviously the food lasts longer than what's on the package or can. But they wanted to play it safe.

(In the winter, due to heavier amounts of clothing worn, I carry 115gr Critical Defense loads) I read a 1st hand account of their performance against feral hogs, and it was impressive. Imagine shooting a bad guy in the chest with a rabid blender. Considering the distance most personal defence shootings take place at, the deviation from point of aim will be minimal at worst. Excellent video. Well made, concise, and to the point.

Thanks for an informative video. I carry 9mm Liberty Defence ammo (60 rounds G45). You caught most of the high points, chief being how easy it is to carry. I use a modern red dot sight on my firearm which makes the POI a non-issue for me. The big parts you missed is A. This ammo produces the same or similar effects after cutting through level 3A body Armour (thats 30 layers of ballistic Kevlar) whereas your standard 9mm can only penetrate 5-6 layers. Also, it has practically zero drop at 100 yards, which makes it ideal for use on a farm for varmint control or for mountain lions or bobcats etc. This ammo makes your sidearm the closest thing to having a rifle on your hip.

Stuff like this is why Paul is the man. I can't tell you how many random convos I've come across online discussing rounds like this. A general concept seems to be basing the performance on what people guess would happen considering the bullet weight. It's typically along the lines of the bullet being too light to penetrate bone, or not being at all effective if it did. As it turns out, it's perfectly capable of penetrating bone combined with other barriers but it just happens to do it in a way where it won't continue to do so after stopping the target.

They also penetrate Level III armor although im probably in some serious shit if that's a concern outside of SHTF stuff. So its nice to have that extra security. Yes the case's are reloadable as well. Anyway id definitely recommend them to anybody. Even if its a shit in the arm, that catastrophic damage would definitely disable their usage of it, even if its not a vital hit. No amount of adrenaline or drugs can make an obliterated muscle or bone function. Also as far as shot placement, this is why your zero with your carry ammunition. Every ammo will be off from another type you've zeroed with. Zero with the exact rounds you intend to use (or like with Federal, a ball round that's the defensive rounds equal match)

Thank you Mr. Harrell for your careful testing of various brands/types of pistol ammunition commonly used for HD/PD. It is beyond the ability of many folks to buy and test the many various choices on the market. Your testing allows one to make a rational choice based on actual results in common firearms. Thank you very much.

Paul you didn't mention body armor. Military Arms Channel (MAC) shot it out of a 4.2 inch barrel and it zipped right thru Spartan level IIIA body armor. I'm sure it wouldn't do the same damage as your meat target showed going thru body armor but it may be a wise choice to carry a spare magazine of these "just in case". Thank-you for the meat target demo and your fair evaluation of this ammo. I believe these rounds to be a good choice for ladies that are recoil sensitive.

Honestly I think it would get similar or maybe even less velocity because of barrel drag. I assume these use a ridiculously fast burning powder, and seeing that these get over 2k fps, they probably do a good job of burning almost all of it even out of a pistol length barrel.

@@bly4233 late but Liberty 357 sig is advertised at 2300fps. The Harrels test proved anything, there's a very high probability of the ammo atleast reaching it's advertised velocity which is incredibly rare. That's rifle round speed coming out of a handgun 🤤.

I was curious what your take would be on this ammo. People treat this stuff like it's some kind of freakin' miracle. I was actually thinking about sending you a couple boxes so you could test it, but it looks like someone beat me to it. Thanks for the video and keep it up!
@MrCZ756 жыл бұрын
My problem with it is, once all the fragments have torn away. You're left with a little copper disc of what 20 grains, that acts much like a 22 or a 556 below the yaw velocity threshold. Way too gimmicky for me. Think I'll stick with the stuff that has consistently worked for near a decade with the data to back it up.
@rustyshackleford175 жыл бұрын
As far as this genera of ammo goes, it is impressive. Especially if you believe that you'll have to be shooting through body armor. I'm glad somebody actually tried to simulate a human torso with this stuff. Weird stuff happens when you hit bones. I wouldn't fault anyone for considering to carry thing because it is so lightweight and low recoil. With the 10mm, I had case cracks with factory glock barrels. I discontinued it.

This ammo makes sense. Don't get me wrong, 9mm is a good cartridge.....However most 9mm ammo is right inside the transonic velocity range, going from just above the speed of sound at the muzzle to below the speed of sound by 25 or 50 yards. This transonic shift can change accuracy quite a bit beyond the 7 yard standard. This is why I personally prefer either warm .38 Special or 45 Auto for my carry guns. If I go up in power, I want .357 magnum so I can stay above the speed of sound at any range I will be impacting targets.
@MrEdgy816 жыл бұрын
I don't know enough to say if this is right or wrong but it does seem to explain some things I have experienced in shooting over the years. Like, why I always shoot .45 better than anything else, Why my .357 sig Springfield XD was crazy accurate at 25+ yards and why 124 gr 9mm always seems to hit in a different spot. I actually just switched to 65 gr +P Underwood extreme defenders for my 9mm, Shot a box and it was like shooting a laser, more accurate than my speer practice ammo and much more controllable.
@John.VanSwearingen6 жыл бұрын
This clearly explains why all those .38 super, .40, and 9mm race guns are all known for their poor accuracy. I get why nobody shoots them in USPSA, where targets can be as far as 50 yards at major matches. Transonic destabilization might -- might -- open up a group by a .5" at that distance. Maybe. I see anywhere between a .5" and 1" difference between CCI Mini-Mags and CCI Standard Velocity out of my benchrest .22 at 100 yards. If you're good enough to see a negligible (0.2-0.25") difference in your 25 yard groups (which should be a 1" to an 1.5" out of a well-built competition pistol), you can outshoot Doug Koenig, Jonathan Shue, and just about every other competitive shooter that's won a major national championship, ever.

@@John.VanSwearingen A 9 major race gun is hardly 9mm, lets not be silly.

@@MrEdgy81 Race gun doesn't mean open gun. You can get great performance out of a Stock III, Shadow 2, Glock 34, or other good-quality Production gun with off-the-shelf 115 and 124. A decent barrel and good trigger will print 1.5" groups at 25 yards with ease without having to load bunnyfart 147s. Edited to add: a beastly 9mm major open load would be supersonic past 100. Looked that up out of curiosity. Why aren't we all calling coyotes with comped and dotted 2011s?

@@John.VanSwearingen I shot open with my XD because it had a ported barrel but to be competitive I should have had a race gun. Now, you said race gun which implies 9 Major so don't backpedal. You also seem to be contradicting your original statement.
