Hi Eric. Carbon Monoxide gas is lighter than air and floats up to the ceiling, so that's where the detector should be mounted. Propane is heavier than air, so a propane detector is positioned at floor level.

How does Jax keep warm? He lays in the sun. :) Re: laundry. To prevent arm burn, don't wait until your dirty duffel is full. You also don't need so much detergent, plus soaking clothes overnight in a bucket gets out a lot of dirt. Use a couple of buckets -- one to wash, one to rinse. Oh, and plunge with the bucket in the bathtub or shower so splashes don't matter -- then put dirty laundry water down the toilet to clean the tank.

Yo Eric... They make conectors that do not require you to flare the ends of copper tube. Sold at home depot as well as lowes. You can even conect plastic flex line to cooper line with these connectors. They are awsome and will stansd a lot of PSI's. I used them to put in T's for my air compressor!

FYI When you hook the 12 foot hose to the heater you should use teflon tape on the threaded end of the hose. It even states this on the yellow tag that is attached to the hose.

Add a big squirt (1.4 cup) of hydrogen peroxide to your wash water. It helps lift dirt and sanitizes at the same time. It's especially great if soaking overnight and helps to brighten up whites. It's not as toxic as clorox, and you can get it for 89 cents at Walmart for a large bottle. I use it for cleaning and disinfecting, too. It's also good for getting rid of odors putting it in your wash water. I put it on sponges, too. I use it at the laundromat, as well.

Eric, get a large pot and when you're camping you can boil water and as an added measure you can boil your clothes to also kill any bacteria and also get them cleaner. My grandmother would use large cast iron cauldrons to wash clothes with sometimes and to also do large things like quilts or drapes.
@4xangler5059 жыл бұрын
Hey Eric, Another cool vid. You may want to relocate your Carbon Monoxide detector from it's current location at floor level. When considering where to place a carbon monoxide detector, keep in mind that although carbon monoxide is roughly the same weight as air (carbon monoxide's specific gravity is 0.9657, as stated by the EPA; the National Resource Council lists the specific gravity of air as one), it may be contained in warm air coming from combustion appliances such as home heating equipment. If this is the case, carbon monoxide will rise with the warmer air.

Check out the Olympian Wave 3 cat heater ($200). I've been using one for the past year and it's awesome. It can be wall mounted or used portable. I've had several Buddy Heaters and they always die after about 1-2 years of use. Why don't you tee off your inlet side of your hose and run a direct line that way? You don't need to buy the extenda stay kit, just get the Tee for about $20 off Amazon-E-bay etc. and use your 12 ft. hose.

Eric, have you considered using a solar heater? They are not very expensive to build and they provide a butt load of heat as long as you are parked where you can get sun exposure. It's basicly a wooden box with aluminum cans affixed to the inside and painted black with a plexiglass top. Two holes, one for an air intake and the other for heat exhaust. You can power it with 2 dc muffin fans like the ones in a pc. One blowing air into the chamber and one blowing it out. Connect it with dryer vent hose to the top of the RV. Simple design and very effective. Just make sure to keep the snow off of it ;)

Eric, great video. Considering that my HE washer uses less than 2 gal for 8 lbs of clothes and tosses them for 8 minutes, you're probably over-doing it. and don't miss the opportunity to 'rinse' the clothes outdoors in the rain!
@twocents7609 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip. Great way to get by if you need to. The weather you described is a lot like new zealand weather...four seasons in one day. That buddy heater btw is a great source for heat but it's not dry heat like a fireplace. It'll leave a nice thin layer of LPG residue on all your shiz after about a year. A great way to get by though.

LOL!! I'm thinking that your mother, a girl friend or some old nosey lady at a laundry mat didn't teach you that cold water is the best to wash clothes in. Doesn't fade colors or shrink. Hot water for whites. I keep looking at that darn Black and Decker coffee maker! I miss mine that disappeared out of my garage when a neighbor moved away! How do you like it? Easy to fill with water instead of having to move the thing to fill and it's always out of the way. You should do a short segment on how it works. Maybe they will bring it back on the market if RVers start to request them along with their newest design.

Just a suggestion, but I'd rather have a Wonder Wash. It takes like two minutes to wash a load of clothes and uses no electricity. Hand power only. It costs about $60-$80 on Ebay but you may be able to find it cheaper somewhere else and possibly Wal-Mart. There are videos on KZbin for them too. Also, get the Wonder Wash if you plan to buy one. They are the original. They're other copycat washers out there. Peace!
@tomg70089 жыл бұрын
eric you can get flaring tools for around 10 to 15 dollars (ebay,auto parts stores) and from that point on you will have that tool when you need it and even the cooper line can be bought for around 25 to 30 dollars.
@steelfist659 жыл бұрын
Just a little info, it's not Co2 it's CO as in carbon monoxide. Love your videos.
@anthonyrstrawbridge9 жыл бұрын
+Steel Fist Doesn't matter, the only concern is actually - primarily O2.
@anthonyrstrawbridge8 жыл бұрын
Yes! Now were cooking chicken. And correct me if i'm wrong but most of the detectors installed in older RV's are alleged to be CO detectors but actually are O2 detectors. I have purchased every type of catalytic material to date except for the new secret catalytic material in MSR's Reactor.. cant wait to get my hands on one. For heaters the asbestos fiber material is the best for lower BTU range and lowest noise but I'm a fan of the ceramic elements even though they are quite noisy. I'm wondering if the Reactor is palladium coated carbon? Anyway, sulfuric acid is a respiratory irritant and likely causes mutation in our cells - cancerous, so that's really our main concern in the end. A perfectly clean burn would have to be free of Nitrogen.

Get a Wonder Wash portable washer. Holds 5lbs and is a hell of alot more efficient than washing your clothes in a tub or sink. Lots of off grid people use it and it's a great backup in case you go without power for an extended period of time.

Have you ever thought about using the small propane tanks you use for camping cookers and just buying an refill adapter to refill it from time to time from you main tank... I do this using the larger tank from my bbq grill to refill the little ones.
@NMjack20008 жыл бұрын
There are flaring tool and copper tube cutter kits on ebay for less than 20 bucks that you could use to do the propane line. Be sure and do a soapy water leak test after doing that propane line. Propane leaks act like a river following the lowest route to any spark that could start a fire so be careful.

Eric Long time listener first time caller as they would say on radio! But for the buddy heater and hard wiring it to you existing system I've done it and it is relatively easy. Most decent garages will have a brake flaring kit and this can be used for your gas lines, once you have the pipe and female and male fittings it is not out of your ability. If you called to any decent mechanic on your travels I'm sure they would lend you the flaring kit or at a small price. T
