I was having a shtf time in my life and i had lost my job. i was depending frinds and family members for food and money, to get me through and i will tell you what having food stores helped so much i got a week supply of mountain house meals for chrismas and what i did was add a lot of rice and egg nodels to them, and it was enough to feed a family of 3 for 2 meals i was suprised to see how far it would stretch. FYI rice and egg nodels are insanely cheap just save some aside.

2:30 A.M. June 17, 2015, being prepared on MY OWN part saved the lives of 4 other people when a fire broke out in our home while everyone was asleep. We were able to save the home, save most of the contents and above all we saved everyone's life. True life SHTF here. We saved it because I was PREPARED. Yes we suffered some damage and yes it's expensive (see insurance company) but had I not had a plan in place, however minced it was, there is a good chance that people would not be alive today....including myself. Be vigilant in your preps. I never thought it could happen to me and it did. My son and my room mates are alive today because I had a plan....just in case. I never thought in a million years I would EVER have to use it. But when it came down to it, everyone obeyed orders and did their part and we are alive to talk about it. As of this post, we should be back to normal in about 3 weeks........nearly 5 months later.....Life is great

Another great Sootch production! Having an Aqua Pod to fill up with water in the bathtub is GREAT if the H2O gets cut off in your neighborhood. I had a very personal SHTF 14 years ago when a roof collapsed on top of me paralyzing me from the waist down. I wasn't sure how we were gonna make it. Physically, financially & emotionally my whole family was spent. We lived and learned because of it and try to be as prepped as best as we can. Keep up the good work Sootch!

It seems to me that most 'preppers' are preparing for some 'grid down' or 'nuke exchange' event. To my mind, they are looking in the wrong direction and are not seeing what has snuck up behind them. I'm talking about 'agenda 21,' and the covid vaccine. I believe, that if you are a 'prepper,' and you've had the covid vax....then all the prepping you've done is a waste of time.

A good jacket. Can have many pockets or none, but it needs to have good insulation. You would think, why have a spare jacket on the car or something? If it's cold, the extra insulation is very life-saving (especially if it's something like coming out of the rain or maybe the battery's dead). You never know if you need to lend clothes to a passenger (because of the aforementioned cold). And if it's really necessary, shredding a piece of it for kindling or a similar function. Or tie it up on a tree or get it stuck on a window to provide some shade.

We have a fully printed family emergency plan, with contact numbers/addresses, emergency services contact info, onsite meeting point, offsite meeting point, and extended distance meeting point. We also have a fire extinguisher mounted on the wall just inside the door of the HvAC system, a second one just inside the door of our emergency room, a third under the kitchen sink, and a fourth just inside the door of our garage. We also have water, gas, and electrical shutoff locations marked on our emergency plan as well. Also, consider creating a large FAK inside of a larger tackle box as your primary hime based kit. The tackle boxes are easy to grab, easy to open, and easy to quickly see needed contents. We used first aid decals to clearly identify the kit Finally, its important to go over these things together, as a family. Discuss locations, physically go shut off water, gas, electric, drive to offsite meeting points etc etc. and practice any additional procedures that your family may have during an emergency....like immediately filling a bathtub with water under certain circumstances

Road flares, and redundant flashlights. I also carry a tarp, I invested in a large industrial fire extinguisher and carry that. I found out that small ones do not work, A passer by and myself tried to stop a van fire, we both had the 2 lb extinguishers, but simply more flame than extinguisher. Van was a total loss but driver got out ok. In winter, I carry a blanket, water and snacks. I also threw in a 75 watt power converter, you never know and it turns your car into a rudimentary generator.

(1) Clothes. Particularly socks, but having at least a full set including shoes in a bag ready to go is a good one. Wrestling shoes can be used for a suprising amount of things besides wrestling & it seems you can waterproof them by rubbing a candle on them & hitting it with a hair drier. They're thin, light, flexible & have good traction. They have good biomechanics & lightness for running. Also good for stalking & climbing. (2) Water & water filters. The Sawyer is ass-kicking & carrying a few isn't even a pound of weight (get it with the adapter & you can use two bottles to filter or backflush by gravity). Bleach can be used for that & found at 7-11 type stores on the road (so can funnels & coffee filters, also useful things). (3) Various chargers. Small ones for cell phones to large ones that would probably go in a truck. (4) Maintenance gear. Sharpeners, gun cleaning kits, needles & thread (threaders is one that people forget about), auto repair tools, soap, etc... . The "logistical" stuff is something people frequently forget. Happens with skills, too. (6) Fuel for the vehicle. Might not be legal to carry it full, but then again not everything has to be. (7) Tools to do things that let you do other things. Crowbars, bolt cutters, hacksaws, locking picks. A Dremel-tool drill can be useful. (8) Tools to get food. Hunting tools, fishing kits, trapping stuff. (9) Smoke hoods. They like a plastic bag with an air filter on the front & elastic on the neck. You can see, breathe, and not get burned (it seems that at least embers won't get through & it won't melt) while in a fire. (10) Fire gloves with good dexterity. Nomex seems to make gloves that are good, at least for embers. Regular work gloves, of the "cattleman"s glove" variety (leather with good flexibility). Wells-Lamont seems to be good. Something that can handle heat while having good flexibility, basically.

Keeping critically important documents (birth certificates, passports, title deed to our home, insurance policy etc) together and readily accessible in a container that is portable. My wife and I had been doing this for many years. There was a fire in our apartment building very late one night, and we had to evacuate at literally a moment's notice. We picked up the container and walked down the fire escape. The fire was contained, but if we had lost our home, getting back on track would have been much more complicated without those documents.

Sounds like you need to use your cell phone. Middle of the night , truck sneaking up to the neighbors and beating on the door . Smoke and electrical fire smell in the house. Both cases you should have called for backup. Doing yourself when help is not available is one thing but when help is there use it.

I've used my food storage and money set aside when I was unemployed I've needed my get home bag on a few times, the most memorable was at 2 am and I had to walk 20 miles back home. I was sure glad I had it Your 72 hour kit in every vehicle is critical. I used it when I got stuck on the freeway for 16 hours because a power line fell on the freeway, both in front and in back of where I was at. It was sure nice to have battery backup for my phone, food, water, and toilet paper, and a way I could relieve myself bathroom wise. It was nice to be in a situation where there was several of us that was able to help those that weren't prepared too. Like those women that needed a restroom. A tarp, 5 gallon bucket, and trash bags and toilet paper was a blessing. The authorities did come by twice with water and sandwiches, but it was nice not to have to depend on them, One final thing, it was nice that several of us had a was to protect ourselves if need be. And it was cool to see how folks teamed together and watched out for others in this situation. Keep up the amazing videos. Thank you for your inspiration

A similar (albeit not crime related) situation happened to my sister. Long story short, the power went out and she wasn't prepared for it - the meal she was preparing at the time was in a crock pot and she didn't have alternative food available that didn't require heating or water, they hadn't refilled their bottled water supply, there were no flash lights or candles readily available...so simply starting with a situation like that really makes you think about being prepared.

Lol, no rant intended, but my main point is I have the very first rescue knife presented by Gerber from the 90's, maybe very early 2000's but I love it not a fan of full serration blade, but it has a blunt rounded unsharpened tip for prying, makeshift flathead, glass breaker and fold out seatbelt cutter, pocket clip, but also sheath with extra tools. Point is, I love it and everyone with any kind of training should have in their kit.

We have plenty of friends and family nearby, so I always assumed and didn't ever give it much thought, but really it's best to talk with those people ahead of time about how much we'd be willing to help eachother in an emergency. It's just part of being prepared. Subsequently, I'll be watching my friends' house and pets for a day or two when they have a baby next week.

I am just ultra concerned about my children getting discovering my SHTF items (i.e. guns, ammo, knives, kits, etc.). So ironic that the 2 most important people in my life are the things that are preventing me from buying personal protection. Do you have any suggestions? Safes or systems you have used in the past? Thanks for your videos, informative and important!

+Jay Cole Learn everything you can about your items....and TEACH your children the same. Your best "safe" for your children is education. Teach them what you know and teach them to respect those items as NOT TOYS. I grew up with tons of guns and knives around...my dad was in Vietnam and his dad was in WW2. My dad TAUGHT me what they would do and why they were to be respected...and it's how I taught my kids. We as parents are the leaders of our homes and our children.....they can't learn if we don't teach.

A few of the things I always carry in addition to the above: Handcuffs and RIPP Hobble. It's more likely that a bad guy will be restrained than shot. Cash and emergency credit card with no balance Handkerchief Chapstick and sunblock

The whole hurricane experience inspired me to start prepping to an extent. We never know when the next one is coming. I'm still not sure on how to prep for the skeeters. I've read somewhere that people who are traveling to the amazon often sprinkle Sulfur on their food so that they will sweat it through their pores and ward off mosquitoes. But are there any other methods?

I used to belong to a 'prepper group' . They were very 'martially' focused but I used to ask people, do you have fire insurance? Do you have fire extinguishers? Just a as a test, because they spent a lot of time on training and prepping. Most did not have these basic items. I would then ask, what do you think is more likely, you having a fire in your house or a WOROL situation? A lot of confused looks and head scratching. There's a aphorism in the medical industry, coined in the late 1940s by Dr. Theodore Woodward, professor at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, who instructed his medical interns: "When you hear hoof-beats, think of horses not zebras".

i love the end of your vids with the outakes, this one is classic. I do keep a small gym bag in my car all times with rain gear and winter gear and a liquid wax fuel cell and a lighter, plus a few pieces of hard candy. I got stranded once on an interstate in a blizzard for about 3 hours low on gas. Three hours seemed like 12 hours, cause at the time I wasn't prepared.

We have tweekers around here too. I have several dogs so I am not really worried when I am away from home. They have access inside and outside and really only allow myself and my wife access. I sorta hate not socializing them with other people but feel it is best to keep them the way they are, Gonna have to try and find one of those cutoff emergency tools it sure would be handy. I also carry a colt mustang I like it very much.

I have always kept an automotive fire extinguisher in my vehicle for emergencies. A few years back a wreck happened right in front of me, middle aged woman was trapped in her car, fire started under her hood. I was able to put it out until the firemen got there to cut her out. They said she could have burned alive had I not had that extinguisher with me,

Don, I know that this a bit of a reach to some, but having a generator for your home could prove vital. Just recently, some crashed into a power line, I had power however, the next five blocks north of me did not. Ice storms, fire, and other local or personal events can occur where a generator is needed luxury.

Menards has those small blow torch style lighters that are transparent so you can see when it gets low on butane, and they are almost as inexpensive as a gas station bic lighter. Add their inexpensive refill can (sitting right next to the lighters) and you can carry many years if not a decade worth of (start a fire right the FU@K now) for less than $5! As far as I'm concerned, everyones pack gets 2 lighters and one refill can as a minimum! Also, my favorite personal defense item is a mini, inexpensive flame thrower! Just get a can of that Diesel Engine Ether Start and use your lighter to light it off! Great for wasp nests, Dog/Coyote/Wolf attacks, the guy who is getting in your face threatening to kick your ass, and I'd bet will scare the hell out of a bear! And if you want to start a signal fire fast, WHOOOSH, THERE YOU GO! I also have a couple Life straws for on the run water and a Sawyer for the long haul that can filter a heck of a lot more than a couple life straws can filter!

Have you considered doing a video on urban SHTF tips and tricks? I live in the city, and although survival in the woods is great, if it happened, the first few days would put my family in the city. For instance, I've been practicing lock picking, if I run across a pad locked fence and have my family who cant scale the fence, but we need water or shelter, Im picking that lock, much lighter than bolt cutters.
