My favorite metaphor to use to describe Fi is a color wheel. As an INFP, it seems that my color wheel has a thousand different shades of each emotion. It seems that some personalities that don’t utilize Fi as much as dominant Fi users have less shades of each emotion or are unaware of the variety of shades they have. When I try and communicate my feelings, I am always trying to identify and express the specific shade of emotion I’m experiencing. The number one thing I focus on all day, every day is my emotion color wheel and identifying and understanding the make up what I’m feeling at each moment.

What I absolutely love about Andrew is how healthy his Fi is. He’s so comfortable with expressing and owning his Fi, unapologetically so, that it honestly is impressive. I’m sure that must of us infps aspire to such a level of raw authenticity. But it takes an inmense amount of courage. 💕

I can't speak for others, but to me that's what being Fi is all about, it doesn't sound much like Fi if you're overly worried about how others will perceive you. maybe when you're very young, at some point it's just well fuck them, and life goes on.
@cristinacarvajal9846

@@Jehphg Fi is always has a certain ‘immovable’ quality to it. You can be a Fi user and be convinced of certain values and yet not necessarily express them as freely and enthusiastically, the way Andrew does. Compare him to someone like Tom Hiddleston, also an infp. He never dishonors his Fi and yet his way of doing so is way more subtle than Andrew’s. Fi is an internal value system so the way we choose to express it does not necessarily measure it or define it.

It helps when you are raised by supportive parents as he was. :) anyone with an infp child needs to be supportive, more so than other types. Many of us INFPs don’t receive enough support as children which in my theory explains a little bit why so many of us end up unhealthy and it’s a struggle to become healthy once we are not :(

That was a wonderful speech for us Fi users. I’m an INFP myself and I struggle a lot against my feelings. It’s that struggle of what I feel vs what I “should”. A lot of the time I feel like I live in a world that isn’t built for people like me but I’ve been feeling so small and inauthentic and disgusted with myself so I’ve started to do things that I want to do and I will be doing more art because art gives me life and even more so, writing makes me feel alive and like a person.

Hang in there 🥺 As an INFP, I totally understand where you're coming from. Maybe try looking at whatever career you are currently doing in a positive light? Observe the things that you enjoy and make the most of those moments. I find that optimism really brought me to love the degree I'm doing even though I did it more for my family's sake. I get to help & chat with people, I like understanding things and I like research. When I saw it that way, it made me more content with my course. Of course I could have done this and that, but what's done is done. If even then you don't enjoy what ever you're doing and it's getting to the point were it's impacting your mental health, I suggest changing courses. It's not worth losing your health over a course that may be more stable than what you want to do. Tell your parents that and the seriousness of the matter and perhaps they'll understand. If not, still change your career - most of the time it's not too late. And like I said before, you should not sacrifice your mental health with a career that may give you more capital and stability. You get get through this!

I commend you're pursuing a phD, it's no easy feat and I imagine you put a lot of hardwork and perseverance in your area (congrats on that!). Eric! The advices you gave (especially beginning minute 14:20) were very meaningful to me. It was somehow exactly what I needed to hear... finding myself quite often with doubts, feeling like I'm too dreamy and indecisive. Right now I am in a phase of "future planning" in terms of working, further education and finding a job... realising that I feel really pressured to make logical decisions that would also make sense to other people with the focus of immediately finding a stable place after my apprenticeship - more than being very happy and satisfied with the outcome. It can be very difficult but I liked that you showed how you personally resonated with the topping, now doing something you are more passionate with! lots of love 🍀

Well watching at his older and more recent interviews, I think andrew has grown as a more self-confident INFP... he's almost 40 I think that his Fi and Te are well balanced. So he is not afraid to express his values to the "tribe" :) Moreover I think that being interviewed pushes INFPs to be "cool". Usually we are somehow reluctant to extrovert our "feelings", to explain what we like and value to others...we think they dont care or, even worse, that they dont accept us. but when the interviewer asks you directly a question you cant escape... and once we have the right trigger, our FI flows out and we can express all our passion and creativity (Ne) So, yeah... we are cool, we only need to not be afraid of others' thinking's judgment :) Ps not a native speaker, sorry :P

I love what you said about listening to your inner feelings and what you feel like you have to do. I've told my friends and family that, for a long time, I felt I had to force myself into a specific life path. That the stuff I was interested in, I'm too many years behind. Like if I want to make movies, I should have started that as a kid. If my brother wants to be a sports player, he should have been noticed when he was in high school. So we feel like we're too late, and we ought to do something more practical so that we will be happy and safe and secure in life. But what I quickly learned was that, the things you feel compelled to do? You will always gravitate towards them. You will *always* love them. No matter how long you're able to successfully repress them in order to do the logical thing, they will always resurface. And even if it's "too late" now, it'll be even later the next time you feel compelled to it. So if you will always want to do it, then just go for it now. The feeling will never go away, and time is always moving, so better to start right now than wait any longer. Now is better than later, and if you think it's late now, then there's no time left to waste!

Thank you.. I just recently graduated college and I'm aware of my role in my family, so I've been thinking of repressing my dream (to work in the game industry) and pursuing another job that will make everyone in my family happy also financially secure (becoming a lecturer, having a Master degree) The thought of it sometimes makes me want to cry because of how passionate I am with the game industry to the point it's everything I want in life, it makes me feel like myself and alive. So I've been really trying to supress it but you're right.. it NEVER goes away. Thanks for the word of encouragement.. I'll definitely try my best to see a middle ground for this..

Jesus, it’s like watching myself try to explain anything to anyone.. I definitely feel called out by this video. I’ve watched dozens of Andrew Garfield videos but I never looked at his patterns so closely before and thought about what exactly he was doing, and I find that now that I am looking at his way of interacting in this lense it’s so much like my own way of speaking and interacting that it actually hurts to watch. I am, by nature an over thinker and over explainer. I get called out by friends and family all the time for doing it. the way he sometimes leaves thoughts uncompleted and just bounces around.. yep that’s totally me. If I wasn’t completely self conscious about it before I am now😅 This is exactly why I couldn’t do speeches in school, I would always veer off the path of my original script or second guess my talking points mid speech if I was brave enough to stand up and actually GIVE the speech at all. Then, after completely changing my direction the whole thing would tank because I’d just lost my structure and couldn’t get it back. This is why I’m better at writing down thoughts than actually verbally expressing anything.

been avoiding this video since it came up to my youtube page because I become a fan or stan of Andrew because of how he can genuinely express his feelings and put clarity to his words through some of his recent interviews and I thought this could be a bad thing but here I am. I appreciate your analysis of these people and of course to Andrew. I see no problem with it and in fact, I enjoyed listening to you. I am not really into labeling personalities but I know how important they are to understand oneself. And yes, what you said about listening to your own inner feelings even if it is small, is very important. I always find myself having different views or priorities from other people who are the same age and I found it as a problem. So one day, I ACKNOWLEDGED it and decided to VALIDATE whatever I am feeling right in the moment and life becomes soo good! Still I can't find the right words to express myself (and that is alright!) so I am happy that I got to know Andrew and how he talks through interviews likes it's telling me, "we're doing good as long as we know ourselves." ciao!

When I watch INFP analysis videos of Andrew Garfield, Tom Hiddleston etc it always makes me cry. I'm an INFP and come from an abusive households. I love seeing the healthy Fi in these guys and how authentic and expressive they let themselves be and it's super inspiring and relatable and fun and lovely. But it also makes me so pained, because they talk about support they received from their family. I wonder what Andrew would be saying today, if instead of the adults in his life having asked him if he'd like to try something creative, he would have been told he needs to be a lawyer or an athlete or whatever and forced to do something that caused him to suffer so much and was judged and criticized as less than for who he was. I don't mean to be down, just sharing. And I guess also wanted to say this to other INFPs who have had to struggle against this in their own lives, you're not alone. And maybe we've got this?

I think it's also so interesting to see that whilst he definitely got more eloquent and wellspoken when talking about the things he feels strongly about (comparing older interviews to newer ones), that did not take away his almost explosive expressiveness and passion, definitely indicating introverted feeling + extraverted intuition. Eric, this comment's for you. This INFP went all in at age 10, determined that my path in life was to help people by way of making them feel better. I was going to accomplish this by entering the medical field. I never doubted my choice, even though I frequently doubted my ability to achieve it. But I had to try because it was something that I couldn't NOT do. I worked part time as I put myself through college. I'm retired now after a long career in critical care nursing. It was my whole life while I was doing it, and it took that length of time, and degree of focus, to become fully sated. Currently I spend my time intensely focused on the multitude of interests that I didn't have time to follow during my working life. How ironic that my Fi took me into the medical field, while your Fi led you out of it.

How could thry ever if I didn't even love myself? If I abandoned myself constantly. Now I love myself. I love my quirkiness and I go along with all my wants. And people even like me more, because I can give them more love as well. I am finally fulfilled. For INFPs is also super important to have an intellectual job and a creative outlet. With that and some love, that's enough
