Pretty underrated content. Quite an unique take on a Notion workspace, the minimal design is really nice.

Would it be tragic if I told you that a lot of them are just there as an example? More like the display microwave at Walmart that doesn't actually function. BUT some are real! Any in particular you're interested in?

Excellent work as always, Josh! I would be really interested in seeing a more technical breakdown of the data teamspace and what your considerations were when going about setting it up to manage databases and database permissions (and how they’re made accessible across teamspaces). I would also be interested in hearing your thoughts around whether or not you find Wiki Pages useful, and how you might take advantage of Wiki Pages in the context of the perspective method!

Good feedback, database management for a company is pretty useful I think and specific enough to contain in a video.

Hello Josh, thank you so much for ALL your videos, they have litteraly changed my life! I have way to many things to juggle to keep it all in my head, now I trust everything to come to me at the right time! I have been scratching my head for an hour or so because I'm very curios, but can not for the life of me figure out how to create that "widget" under "Daily status" in your terminal! It looks fantastic to get a summary like that (0:36). Let me in on your secrets please!:)

Hey I'm glad you like the videos! Really appreciate the comment, it's always nice to hear from people that find them helpful! Anything in particular that has really stuck out about my videos compared to others? The daily status widget is very complex! I need to make a video about it sometime but its a really specific use of related databases and complicated formulas to pull that data together. I've done it for other analytics with success, that one is actually just a mock up! Don't tell anyone.. But you've got me thinking about putting together a video on it!

@@JoshRedd Wow, yeah I tried setting up some formulas and stuff for it, but figured quickly it would get so complicated it would probably crash my workspace. I'd be very happy with a video on it! As to what makes you stick out, I think there's a couple of things: You are to the point and you respect your audience. A lot of notion youtubers tailor their notion content to fit everyone, including beginners. I would consider myself a pretty high level user at this point, and nothing is more frustrating than viewing a video called "GENIUS LITTERATURE DATABASE IN NOTION", only to see that it's a database with a formula that reads a select property and displays the corresponding emoji. I think you should continue aiming content at power-users, because there are quite few channels that do that. You are the ONLY channel I've come across in years that presented a concept that I hadn't thought about on my own, with the perspectives concept. It's solved SO many of the issues that i had previously, and before when setting up one dashboard at a time from scratch, everything was so tedious. Now, everything feels smooth and coherent. A big plus for me is also that the perspectives method reduce scrolling, and therefore feels way more natural to use on my ipad on the go. I do have some ideas of my own in regards to the perspective setup, if you'd be interested. Anyway, looking forward to that widget tutorial ;) have a good one

Im hearing this lately, Im thinking about the best way to do it since it's not really a plug and play formula. But its on the top of my list!

I must say, your videos are all pure gold. I have recently been learning Notion for my business slowly through KZbin, and I have yet to find another channel that discusses implementing notion from the perspective of the owner in a scalable and sustainable way. Thanks to your last video, I much better understand how to limit access for guests and members to only touch data, and not the UI. Other topics of interest for me: tips on implementing a team wiki or knowledge base? Tracking HR related things where all team members can see who's on the roster / org chart, but only leadership can view and track HR incidents, invoices, company hardware that has been loaned out, etc? Thabk you for being the only resource I have for properly modelling a scalable implementation of Notion for businesses 🙏

Much appreciated Peter, thank you! Thanks for the feedback on what you're interested in, a good wiki is a solid rec. I had someone else on twitter say the same thing. I'll definitely be working that one out.

Hey man, great videos, I really like your approach. Only one thing: I can't find situations in which actually having him in a DB could bring advantages compared to doing everything the same way but with pages (using a synced block with a button that inserts a block above with the template) Can you give some practical examples of your own? Thank you!
@JoshRedd

yeah it's a good observation! I had originally made perspectives when buttons weren't as robust as they are now but this approach may have still been possible. I also originally created it without synced blocks and as time went on, used those instead. I like the minimalism of this approach! Something that you don't have with this approach is being able to filter and sort your perspectives bar. It's admittedly not necessary in most cases but I do make use of it sometimes, you can see it in my video on the Perspectives Journal. We also deploy packs sometimes that are premade for a new client and we hide perspectives until they're needed. Ive also used the approach where the perspectives ARE the database item, like a repository of formulas. each perspective IS the document. I made a formula guide like this before formulas 2.0 came out that I need to update. It groups each function by its type in the nav AND it also uses many different views. Those are more niche and advanced for sure. I should use the more minimal approach sometime to feel it out. One thing that I'd be more cautious about with this approach, especially with companies, is that it's easier to delete the whole app if you delete the landing page. Also, you need to be mindful of where you put the app and how you give permission. That goes for either approach though! Appreciate your thoughts! Let me know if you have others.

thank you so much for your message. everything is very clear. it's just not clear to me except this part "Ive also used the approach where the perspectives ARE the database item, like a repository of formulas. each perspective IS the document. I made a formula guide like this before formulas 2.0 came out that I need to update. It groups each function by its type in the nav AND it also uses many different views." Isn't that what you show in the video? that is, the fact of having the perspectives inside the DB@@JoshRedd

In this video, the perspectives are VIEWS of data. You put in a linked view of files for example inside a view called "My Files". with the method you quoted, Imagine making your files database ALSO a pack. the file object itself has the integrated navigation bar that shows all the other files. @@prepos9376

I think you mean the Home tab? The dashboard I show in this video is much more robust and is made to handle many different databases and views. The Home tab does allow an aggregate view of tasks but that's it so far. We'll see how it develops!
