Transcript: So today we're going to be looking at how we trace using an art projector onto a canvas. I'm a hobby artist and primary school teacher, meaning my skills are intertwined equally. It's very useful for professional artists, but for me, I'm looking to trace animals as that's what I'm interested in I'm going to be using line drawing to be able to do this - where a professional artist may want to use a picture of a loved one's pet or a commissioned picture. We're going to compare 3 Pico Genie projectors and look at how each one can be used. We're going to use an overhead rig for this. In this setup, you can see we're using a tripod alongside a selfie stick or you could use a boom arm if preferred. Secondly, we're going to show you how to project onto an easel using a standard tripod with Pico Genie projectors. The things that we're going to show you today is tracing using a projector onto a desk and then onto an easel to show you how easy it is to use the settings, keystone settings, navigating the menus, whilst also showcasing how small or large you can make the image - Which can go down as small as a post-it note or if you're wanting to do a detailed drawing right up to 120 inches diagonally. We will also compare the brightness of the three different projectors so you can work out which model would be best for your needs. We're going to look at how you can connect using lots of different methods from wireless to wired, USB, and SD card because you can do it with different projectors. We're also going to use look at which models you would use with Android and Apple both wired and wirelessly, and finally, we're going to look at other great uses that you can get from the projectors because they're not just for art tracing! With Netflix and KZbin built-in, you can use them for home cinemas, gaming, business presentations, and so much more. As you can see in this setup, I'm using a selfie stick on a tripod as that's what I've got available to me. We've got a boom on that we could use, but I'm not using this today just because of the thickness of the table. What's interesting and helpful is that each of the Pico Genies has got a quarter-inch thread on the bottom so a boom arm can be placed here, or you can have the projector directly overhead so there are lots of different options to use with all three models. We have turned on the projector using the remote control and we've deliberately got the corners out to demonstrate how we keystone. The first thing that we do is go to Settings using the remote, Projection Settings - It's so simple! Then to Projector Keystone and now you can see that it's slightly off, so we can use the menu function to take each corner and use the up, down, left, and right buttons to get it exactly how we need it and now we're able to bring the canvas forward and that's when the magic happens! How do we get the picture off the phone onto the projector? We click back on the menu and we click on the E-Share App and we have the website here where you would be able to download that onto your mobile phone. I've got the E-share App here it connects and then you click on Mirroring, and we can then go into the gallery. I have this cat as a full-screen image, now I'll set my canvas up to check my keystone is correct, then if I need to alter it, I can do so. Finally, I can start tracing. The projector that we're using here is the Pico Genie impact 2. It's one of the smallest projectors in the world. It's ultra-lightweight, portable, and bright - More than bright enough for tracing, even in a bright room such as this! I'm using a Galaxy fold phone - equally, you could use any Android phone or Apple device and use those wirelessly with this projector. You can see I just need to put those lifelike irises in - and just like that, a picture of a cat has now appeared. Now I have something that I'm pleased with as my starting point for painting. The Pico Genie impact 2.0 and 3.0 have got a global plug. This is the plug for the UK. It's got a pop and twist mechanism, which I can change to Australia, USA, Canada then finally to Europe. I've used my Android phone previously; I'm now using my iPad. When I connect via iPad, I connect it with the wire. When you connect the first time, it may come up Trust This Device we tap Yes then you'll see the image on-screen and just using your fingers you can make the image smaller or bigger to the size of the canvas you're using. This is the Pico Genie Impact 3.0, it's got all of the same features of the Pico Genie Impact 2.0 which includes the four ATP resolutions. This has got a hundred additional ANSI lumens which means it's a much brighter projector. For both projectors so far, we've been working without the wired power into them, so with the wired power it will be even brighter. This is great if you're wanting to use Netflix as it also has a good set of speakers. What's interesting here is it has auto keystone correction. I'll take you quickly through that menu! First, we're going to Projection Settings. We have got the auto keystone with a vertical keystone. And what that means is that it's easy each time you put your canvas down in that it will go to an auto-correction setting. We can then connect using E-Share. I have E-share installed on my phone, so again, if in doubt if you haven't put it onto your phone already, it tells you exactly where to visit as there's a QR code or you can head to the website and download that onto your phone from there. I've swapped from using the Pico Genie Impact 2.0 and now I'm E-sharing across, and I click Mirroring and then I go to my gallery, and there we have it! I can position it on my canvas wherever I want to then pick up my pencil and trace, which you already know how to trace at this point. It's quite a simple picture here for demonstration purposes. Artists! We know that you're going to be using a lot more complex techniques and going directly or from a pet's photograph to get that desired finished product. So far, we've worked with the Pico Genie Impact 2.0, the slightly bigger Impact 3.0 and we're getting brighter as we go through. And just thinking about that connectivity - which is so important to everyone because you are either using Apple or Android so with Apple iOS connectivity it couldn't be easier with the 2.0, 3.0, or 4.0 Impacts. We can use an iPhone or an iPad and connect using a lightning cable, which again, saves time. When we are thinking about the Android with the Pico Genie Impact 2.0 and 3.0 (which is what we've been using so far). As long as we're on the same Wi-Fi network then we can just use the E-Share app which we've demonstrated is built into the devices and with the Impact 4.0 we'll be demonstrating in a moment we use a USB C cable. All the Impacts 2.0, 3.0, and 4.0 come with a HDMI cable so you can connect straight to your laptop and PC to access your media directly. You can also use the USB port. I'm using a simplified line drawing here so that I can get simple lines in place before I look at painting it. I'm now coming to the end of this trace, and a couple of top tips on how to keep this in position is you could blue tack the corners on equally you could just draw in your corners. So now you've got your exact alignment onto the table, I've got my basic image there that I can start working from, and to demonstrate I've now got my iPad Cable connected via lightning cable. Nice and simple! As I connect it asks Do I trust it click on Trust and there we'll have the image projected. I've been doing it from a different object, and you'll see I can move to a different size and I've gotten it much smaller if we're using a really small picture, so we get a different effect. And now we're using the Pico Genie Impact 4.0 and straight away you can tell that it's brighter with a higher resolution of 540p we're now working with 500 ANSI lumens, which makes this suitable for all artists. It has a unique feature compared to the Impact 2.0 and 3.0. On Android and Apple, we can use wireless AND wired which might be useful where we've you may have a weaker Wi-Fi signal within the workplace or household. The Impact 4.0 is great for those bigger projects - and remember, it's got that autofocus for easy setup. I am connected using the Impact 4.0 projector with the USB C to USB C cable that comes in the box, and it's connected to my Samsung Galaxy Fold 4 phone and mirroring straight through. How did I get there? First, take the cable out. You must make sure that when you are connecting with your Samsung Phone, in settings, to search for Samsung Dex and make sure that Dex is turned off, which should allow you to mirror directly from there. Looking at the other two projectors, the Impact 3.0 I'm going to compare that to the size of my phone. I've got the Samsung Galaxy Fold and you can see here that the projector is smaller and its front size than that and we've got quite a small size lightweight projector. Moving on to the impact four - it's the size of my phone, but again, it's a lightweight projector with speakers built-in. The setup so far is a standard tripod with the standard fitting with our selfie stick that's on here, the selfie stick is expandable so that we could have a tripod on the floor if that was the preferred way of working. To recall, the Impact 2.0, Impact 3.0, and Impact 4.0 all have this quarter-inch thread that allows us to connect to the selfie stick or tripod directly and then as a size comparison with my mobile phone next to the Impact 2.0 Pico Genie (which is the world's smallest projector) It's even smaller than a pack of cards!

Thank you very much for making this video. I've spent DAYS looking for info of this caliber and detail. I went ahead and ordered the genie impact 4. Unfortunately the only way I found to order it was via Amazon UK or through the manufacture which is also in the UK. I'm in the US. Hopefully there won't be any snags. Shipping time/cost were high plus the exchange rate etc.. Ended up right at US$500. I'll be chomping at the bit for 2 weeks.

I have the Genie 4.0 and when I plug my iPhone to it nothing shows up. There is no request for trust on the phone, rather just a small window from the projector to say the phone has been connected. I can’t seem to find how to get my phone screen to show up and have searched a lot to find an answer, maybe you could shed some light on this ? Thanks

Hi, one thing to keep in mind is you need the original lightning cable to connect. If you have an off-brand cable it may not show the image as intended. If it is the original cable, feel free to check out the FAQ page over at picogenie.com as they have lots of information available. If you're still struggling after that, please do contact us and we'll look at more troubleshooting with you. 😄

Thanks so much for sharing this information! I've been looking for the perfect projector to use for my high school art classes and these all seem amazing! I would like to know if they all have the same reduction in size capabilities. We need larger projections for murals but smaller for 11"X14 paper/canvases. Do you have a recommendation?

Yes they can all project super small and remain in focus. They can also project images really large up to 200" and be in focus. Pico Genie Impact 4.0 or Pico Genie M550 Plus 2.0 will be the best option if you want to use for murals as they are brighter with better resolution.

Hello, quick question. I bought this Micro projector. It has WiFi but don't have keystone. So If I understand correctly, I have to manually set the grid and calculate each cm from the sides, right?
@PersonalProjector
@PersonalProjector 5 ай бұрын
Hi, with Keystone you pull each corner in or out to where you require them using the remote by selecting a corner you need to align. You can also move the projector back or towards the surface you're projecting on to create a smaller or larger image. Hope that helps! 😄

A lot of artists are using an overhead tripod / boom arm. We currently don't have any but are looking into getting some made just for art. For sturdiness I would look at Monfrotto, they have very sturdy overhead tripods.
