'Personent hodie' arranged and performed by the Will Todd Trio

A wonderful improvised version of a sixteenth century plainsong called Personent hodie.
Although probably best known as a choral composer, the British composer Will Todd is also an extremely accomplished songwriter and Jazz performer. The WIll Todd trio comprises Will on Piano, Gareth Huw Davies on double bass and Jim Fleeman on drums.
Personent hodie is a Christmas carol originally published in the 1582 Finnish song book Piae Cantiones, a volume of 74 Medieval songs with Latin texts collected by Jaakko Suomalainen, a Swedish Lutheran cleric
Ir became popular in Britain after Gustav Holst set it for unison voices and orchestra in 1916. Here Will Todd has arranged it for Jazz piano trio.
