Nature provides man with many materials that can be used for artistic self-expression. This means that conservators need to possess a thorough understanding of a very diverse range of substances. We see what it takes to preserve everything from 17th century globes; a Celto-Iberian necklace; strange objects from unknown cultures discovered on scientific expeditions in the 18th century; Medieval fabrics; mother-of-pearl mosaics; indigenous feather art; and finely worked parchments to objects made of mud.

The more restoration Docs like these, the better. Seeing the works and the actual efforts of their restoration is simply amazing.

This novice held her breathe at times…..sensed the professionalism of the handlers and appreciated the overview of historical backstory…. ….the cadence of the narrator used a sense mystery and awe along with a score of music that laid down this rich presentation….the best of social media today

I love doing artifact restoration. It's slow, painstaking work, but highly rewarding.

Is there a reason that the restorers don't wear gloves? Maybe these are no longer used?

It's too difficult to do restoration work with gloves on. Plus, lots things aren't affected by oils in the skin. And, gloves make it difficult to use delicate tools, or adhesives, or needle and thread, etc. Often, things get a finally cleaning after restoration too.

i do not agree with how evident the repairs are made. The Japanese model of Total Reintegration -removable and clearly documented - but the original down to every aspect of color and translucence is recreated :impossible to tell that it has been damaged or repaired; whatsoever.

This is a very outdated video production, especially the language used, needs be more inclusive, less colonial.

Inclusive? Art is what it is, not what you want it to be. I see no colonialism here, or anyother placement of one's own meaning on these works.
