Great thought from the lecture: it is unwise to throw away the tradition when you don't even know what it is (paraphrased).

Wow did that first guys actually say off topic!!! How rude and dim of him!!! Not only did he address what he meant, he gave countless examples of the attitudes of the different eastern countries towards islam under colonialism. Unbelievable.

This man dares to say that paganism in Rome was dead at the time of Jesus Christ, but from what I have read it seems that it took till about 650 until there was a christian majority.

Read about Constantine and how he used Paganism to spread Christianity. He is speaking from a theological perspective here, as when Jesus peace be upon him was preaching there was no Paganism in Christianity.

@@ultrasignificantfootnote3378 Now that is actually a misconception. Many Christian islamophobes actually began spreading this false narrative of Moon God, due to the pagans practices of Quraish, which islam came to eradicate, but it actually has no basis in actual research into islam. Anyone who studies theology will know those are charlatan lies, including non Muslims, from a pure non bias of islamic history, Islam is purely monotheistic, as you can see from the story of Abraham. The theology is very explicitly clear that there is nothing to be worshipped but Allah, even the idols that this narrative cliams such as Hubal, and Allat, (no relation to Allah even semantically in Arabic) are explicitly mentioned in the Quran, with relation to the same claim remarkably, Allah the Exalted rebukes the idolators for worshipping idols and taking rivals to Him. They built houses for their idols to resemble the Ka`bah built by Prophet Ibrahim, Allah's Khalil. Allah rebukes this In multiple places in the Quran, so as you can see there is no actual proof for this claim that islam contains idolatry, in fact evidence overwhelming proves the opposite. Hence, no iconography or symbols exist within islam, only cultural such as the crescent from the Ottoman conquests and so on. However, islam itself contains no paganism in its beliefs, in fact it came to eradicate it. But I can see why a lay man who is conditioned by anthropologists in the west may think so with surface level misconceptions and without studying the faith.

@@ultrasignificantfootnote3378 Hence, why even today, you will see Islam remains purely monotheistic. No one worships idols, and Jesus peace be upon him is not made into God. Just like the original Christian understanding. The basis of becoming Muslims is the Shahada which states (there is no one worthy of worship but Allah)
