You have a really great way of organising your thoughts and explaining points clearly, I really enjoyed listening to this while i work! This is my favourite Austen work too and you really can feel how all of the books that came before were leading to this one. Anne is the most relatable protagonist imo bc she is so balanced - she is not uber shy and retiring but not loud and out there either. She's just a normal person. The older i get, the more i love her

Great breakdown of Persuasion, Caroline. It’s my favourite novel and I don’t tire of listening to it being discussed, and discussing it myself! I liked your description of Mr Elliot as ‘a snake in the grass’. For me, there is something inexplicably likeable about him; he takes an interest in Anne over Elizabeth and he’s a great conversationalist, which makes it even more impressive how shrewd Anne is to realise that there is something amiss about this likability. As you said, what Anne is doing is actually comparing this *seemingly* perfect and composed Mr Elliot with the *actually* wonderful, charismatic and imperfect Capt. Wentworth. I have real mixed feelings about Lady Russell, especially after listening to Dr Octavia Cox talk about the snobbery of the character over on her channel.

Intelligent and astute, and Anne Elliot is too. I think you nailed this. I also found your delivery to be distinct and metered. Yes, it's worse to have loved and lost and when you are of an age your realisation of matters being unrecoverable, crushing you, the almost dream sequence seeing Jane through her heroin finding that long yearned for fulfilment is absolutely devastating.
