Here is a look back in time. In this video we compare several street scenes from the city of Perth, Western Australia, with the same setting decades later. It's a small part of the history and heritage of Perth.
Perth underwent significant changes starting from the late 1950s, as did many cities around the world; it was a time of 'out with the old, in with the new'.
It is sad that entire streets have suffered architecturally due to these developments, but we hope Perth serves as an example - not only to the current generation of West Australians, but to all cities around the world undergoing rapid change.
Development is necessary under our economic system, but we hope developers of the future will integrate heritage buildings rather than demolish them, retaining the beautiful and interesting streetscapes from the past while sympathetically working them into the new buildings more suited for today.
