Just used my machine for the first time I can say this is the closest I’ve come to shop coffee using a pod machine. Other pod machines I’ve owned never came up to my expectations, and that includes Nespresso, but this one surpasses them. Totally agree with this review and throughly recommend this machine. 5 ⭐️’s

All my coffee is made with extra heat. Americano black 73c, Americano with 2xtbs milk 64c, If you drink immediately I would say both are hot and with milk perfect for me. Large cappuccino 69c again hot and a bit hot to drink immediately in my opinion. Black filter made in my lacafetiere filter pot 82c. I hope that helps 😊.

Have you tried it? My concern is that because you have to pack the ground coffee in yourself, it might be impossible to achieve the same result as the retail pods. More likely it will be totally lousy… and hardly “a win for your taste buds” 😆

hi excellent video, thank you so much. Is it possible to make an expresso and then separately froth some milk without putting in a capsule to make a macciato
@PerthWAtch
@PerthWAtch 3 жыл бұрын
Yes absolutely, although there is a minimum amount you need to put in to allow the frothing attachment and steam wand to work on the milk… you would have to manually time this, and there would be quite a bit of wastage for a macchiato. One option is to use a metal jug to allow good timing - I might just try that! :)
@teep1947
@teep1947 3 жыл бұрын
@@PerthWAtch thx for the speedy reply, not sure I understand why I need a metal jug. I was thinking of just putting in a small amount of milk into glass jar, or are you saying just use a small metal jug to save waste. `How would I make the milk frothy as I assume the whisk part is a fitting made for the glass jar. Apologies if I am being dense
@PerthWAtch
@PerthWAtch 3 жыл бұрын
You need a metal jug to time milk frothing properly - like you see baristas do in cafes. You could use this machines default milk froth timing but that would require >150ml of milk which would be massive waste if you’re just making a macchiato.

Thanks for that. Well if making multiple coffees I would put the mug I’m using under the machine, run the espresso shot, then froth the milk in the jar before pouring this into the mug. Had to put a small amount of milk in then press the large cappuccino to get a hot coffee otherwise it’s lukewarm. After a while it does seem to catch up but if you follow these instructions expect a tepid cappuccino. The frothing system is so much better than the usual. No trying to remove baked on milk from the steamer. You can’t set the amount of coffee dispensed on the milk coffee side but you can take the top off the jug and add extra from the pod later.

Steamed milk is supposed to be at a certainly temperature range… 65-70 degrees. So actually a “really hot” coffee is generally a bad coffee. The way to make it hotter without making it bad is to add your own boiled water - that way you can make it to your preference. Oh the other hand if your just referring to black coffee, then knock yourself out - add as much hot water as you want.

is the cup difficult to take in and out, ?i had the Fantasia and after a few weeks, the lid got jarred in the machine but the cup part came away with hot milk in it, and when i sent it back it could not be repaired. i loved the coffees but decided to get a Tassimo after that experience, which I really regretted, i'd love another Lavazza with coffee machine and frother combined to save space, but would worry about the same thing happening.
@PerthWAtch

Hmm interesting conundrum... I can see how that might happen, the lid needs to engage firmly with the machine as the steam is directed through a nozzle there. Taking it out I mainly focus on disengaging the lid itself, rather than pulling on the mug - so far so good!

I think that differences among various capsules is not too big because Lavazza is proper coffee. i don't like when other brands are using hazelnut or any other false tastes and sweeteners as then it is not proper coffee. Diversity with Lavazza could be achieved with various kind of milk, for example it is totally different taste when you use soy or almond or coconut milk.

Any thoughts on how this would compare with say the De'Longhi Magnifica, Bean to Cup Coffee Machine, ESAM 4200.S I currently grind my beans and just use a cafateire.... and Monsoon Malabar is my favourite tasting type coffee.... I have a friend married to an Italian who says stay away from pod machines and she recommends the DeLonghi above... However I reckon that that pod machine would be adequate for me as Im not that particular about my coffee.. ....in fact i have only just moved away from instant coffee, used to buy Nescafe Costa Rica.... ...in light of that, any thoughts on whether this pod machine would do, I am looking for speed.... the De'Longhi looks more fiddly... ..and im not sure im going to really notice the difference...
@PerthWAtch
@PerthWAtch 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Julie - I don't have any direct experience with the DeLonghi ESAM 4200 model but based on experience I would expect that a machine which grinds beans on the spot should certainly produce a better espresso than a capsule machine. It's all well and good to say "stay away from pod machines" but that is making some gross assumptions that you're most interested in espresso quality regardless of the effort, maintenance, and time it would take. I think if espresso quality is the priority then you would get a separate quality grinder, and a good manual machine. I used to do that with a Sunbeam EM6910 but got tired of the time it took to do things, and the cleaning involved. Now, back to the DeLonghi you pointed out... I think the questions I would have are about maintenance (what do you have to do to keep it clean and running well? are you prepared to do that?) and also the performance of the mild steamer - that type doesn't tend to do it very well, so if milk result is important to you, that may make or break it. This Lavazza I feel is very low maintenance, very quick and quiet, and also gives a much better espresso than any Nespresso pod I've tasted, whilst also giving very fair steamed milk result. Hope that helps!

Don’t break the glass beaker as the machine is only good for espressos after that. Also mine will not enter-p descale mode, so the warning light is on all the time

Well presented review. This replaces the fantasia by Lavazza which is no longer available. Problem 1.) What happens if you don't like drinking out of the glass mug provided? - I don't! Problem 2.) From the above - you have to pour the whole lot into your favorite cup thus losing the effect and some of the composition of the made coffee. Problem 3.) If that seems a pernickity critic, what happens when you have friend/ friends round for coffee? You have to do the above in problem 2 - there is no choice! - what a lot of faffing about! Problem4.) Okay - you accept all that, but hey, one day you break your glass mug! It happens! and its not like you can just go and buy another down the Hardware store/supermarket/shop - there is just one provider - Lavazza! and that would be at the online company at their pre-determined cost.- like it or lump it I have been on UK Lavazza website and they are 15 GBP guys!!!! Problems solved my end - I will not be buying into this machine, sticking to my old Fantasia and then looking at another alternative when it finally expires.

1. You can find an alternative cup or mug that can sit under the frothing device - it has to be large enough to accomodate the milk spinning around however. 2. See 1. 3. You can either get more of the glass mugs, or see 1. 4. See 1. :)

so what happens when you pour that into a cup. you lose the presentation. what if you want 2 or 3 cups you need 2 or 3 of tose glass cups . doesnt seem hugely practical to me or maybe ı am missing something
@PerthWAtch
@PerthWAtch 4 жыл бұрын
Sheer practicality would do away with presentation - the taste doesn't change in a significant way after pouring it into another cup. If you're concerned about presentation... well you can buy extra Lavazza mugs for $20 each. Why do you think having more of those would not be "hugely practical"? In any case, better yet use a manual machine if you want better presentation!

What? glass mug for milk frothing? I have 2 lavazza coffee machines and didn't get a glass milk frother in either one! 😱 I had another lavazza coffee machine before the modo mio ones which I must admit I preferred by far, easier to clean and fill, the modo mio being reviewed here is not as user friendly as the first model with its seperate milk frother and the model I had (the second one) was a hassle because the frothing jug couldn't be submerged in water for cleaning! I want one of the glass frother jugs, which should be a gratis included in the purchase, but I will be buying it when possible! 👍

Thanks for your comment. Why do you say this is not as user friendly?

Reading other reviews on other sites - lot of problems with Lavazza a modo mio machines. I have used numerous models for over 25 years…they have a short life span. My last machine was 15 months old leaking & coffee dripping out very slow….I have always Descaled same problem. I rang Lavazza Customer Service in Melbourne, told the woman my problem. She said All Lavazza Coffee Machines are not repairable - & to throw away….in Land Fill. I noticed each Model has been made by different Companies over the years. Simplex was made by Saeco…then from memory Philips made the Machines, so did Electrolux. I hate throwing away Products that can’t be ‘recycled’. The Coffee is wonderful but be prepared to spend money - the machines are not built to last…

My daughter has a Lavazza Jolie pod machine with milk frothier. As the water capacity is small thought I would buy her the Desea for an early Xmas present as the water capacity is so much better. By the look on any sites I looked at the milk looked really frothy but I’m sad to say that themilk frothier is VERY disappointing in comparison to the milk frothier on the Jolie. That is what I mean. Not anywhere near what happens with the Jolie, sorry I bought it.

To get just coffee out without milk froth, put a cup under the outlet but don’t use the black milk frothing extension

Thanks for sharing. But what do you mean by “average”? If you mean manual steam wands, well it’s definitely no comparison, not sure any auto can compare.
