Wanted to shout "this is not darkwave!!! this is synthwave!!! don't make another "wave" for anything!", then the first sound came in and I realised it is indeed darkwave, in its true, old-school goth meaning. Moral of that? Never try to read comments before listening at least half of a song.

His first albums were Cyberpunk themed. Take a look at his earlier videos. Most had cyber punk anime clips... he even had one video with clips of the Blade Runner movie. Mostly he had a synth cyber punk sound always dreaming of the future. " The price of failure " song being one if my favs.

I really really like the combination of your trademark dark synthwave sound with 80s Depeche Mode-esque vocals with this album. Every song is a banger, and the vocals are some of my favorite out of all your albums. The contrast in energy makes the heavy synth parts, like the end of Secret Devotion, sooo much more impactful. Is that the album art? It looks like some ancient ceremony or something. Really different than any synth-wave stuff I've seen before. Perturbator is one of the most innovative synth artists right now, with "New Model" being one of the darkest and unique albums I've ever heard. Along with his amazing side project "L'enfant De La Forest", this guy is changing the game in many ways. I'm excited to see what direction this album will go in!
@tom_stephen3 жыл бұрын
Most importantly, both this track and "Excess" aren't really synthwave anymore. They have some parts of that genre, but they are more relevant to post-punk or darkwave genres. Still they absolutely blast these genres (though with post-punk revival lately going strong, Perturbator has nice competitor at least).

I don't think it's made with intention, but sounds like a remix of some track that could be originally on Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 2, and that track was the astral version. I don't think and not saying it's something bad, that game score was heavy and dark as hell. It sound stunning indeed and I feel it's logical step forward in creative process, get back to old tunes from two albums before New Model using experience especially from the lastest one and giving it a new atmosphere and tunes, but I am very very curious if James ever played it.

@Mr Saturn Sorry, I haven't seen that somebody replied. Well, I didn't mean any particular song. I wrote "a remix of some track that could be...". Of course this song isn't similar to any from that game when it comes to melody. I mean, lower tones from the song are similar to those from LoK. I don't know, maybe you haven't ever played those games, it was my instant reference. I'm also a fan of Depeche Mode like probably many people here seeing the comments, but I couldn't point any song that gives me the same feelings. Maybe some details in the background from SOFAD album. Honestly I confused soundtracks from Soul Reaver 1 and Soul Reaver 2. My bad. But still, I can sense some tones that could fit to the Perturbator's song. Ok, if you want songs that give me those sense then try out those from SR1: Sunlight Glyph Suspense, Tomb Pillars Combat, Necropolis and Necropolis Combat. From SR2 this could be literally any song in spectral version. Try The Caves Danger Spectral. Sorry, maybe I am handicapped, but I can't put it in other words.
@lechgolas64003 жыл бұрын
@@inakilukac Nope, in fact I confused both soundtracks from SR1 and SR2, I sensed more similarities of song's lower tones to tracks from SR1, but somehow I wrote about SR2... But soon after I realised that there are much similarities in SR2 too, the first track that came to my mind was The Pillars. Don't you have any associations with LoK music?
