A story written by an italian writer (Alessandro Baricco), a film directed by an italian director (Giuseppe Tornatore) a song composed by an italian compositor (Ennio Morricone) and played by an italian musician (Gilda Buttà). This is my country: Italy.

As much as I have always admired and respected Ennio Morricone as one of the dozen or so truly great film composers, I feel the score is his masterpiece. The music reflects the poignancy of the individual scenes and the drama as a whole with a degree of perfection achieved by the greatest operatic composers, including Wagner! The film contains so many wonderful scenes, but I think the final shot as Max leaves the music store and walks up the alley with his trumpet affects me the most.

I just absolutely love how the piece changes its nature as soon as 1900 sees the girl. Almost a musical embodiment of him fancying her. :)

Morricone's work always raises the bar of ost's...definitely love this one from the moment i watched the film, gives you that Mellon collie feeling, the movie is oh so great.

as a pianist and composer myself, a man's tallent is his and his alone to do with what he chooses. there have been many to wanted me to do other things with my music but its just their own selfish interests they have in mind even if theyre not aware of it. they think what they want is the best thing for you. 1900 made the right choise, because it was his alone to make.

This part is so touching.. It makes me cry sometimes :). It's probably the best movie I've ever seen, they need to come out with a whole new award to fit this movie lol, forget the OSCARs.

This film makes me cry every time I watch it. It's a truly touching story, and the best part about it is that it's so believable, for a long time I thought it was a true story. This song is just beautiful, if ever there was a song that could symbolize love, this would be it.

this is the best actor-pianist than i never known.maybe falling in love or just admirate a young beauty it's politiquely incorrect, this is just a movie,but the music is real!!! and the interpretation too!!!That is make my hart like a marshmallow:)

I have this movie on DVD. It is so terribly sad. The ship was the only home and reality he knew. The piano keys, making and playing music was infinity to him whereas living on land in the "real world" would have its limitations.He said to his friend and I'm not quoting here, something to the effect of, "How can I live in one state, in one city, in one house, on one plot of land and stay married to the same person forever and forever?" The thought of that sounded finite.

@ZoePappas Thank you for your astute observation. The music makes the movie complete. It's the only part of the world where he feels at home, even when he's sailing around the dance floor during the storm. And it's his offensive weapon against the taunts of Jelly Roll Morton. His theme is the double time solo section when with the band and the beginning of the Love theme

I just saw this movie!!! It was inspiring. I have a question though.. the scene where he tells the girl that he knows her father. How does he know him? I know I've heard the line "voice of the ocean" somewhere in the film too but can't quite remember who said it exactly. So who is the girl's father? And can Tim Roth actually play the piano well?

@EddyVitkauskasXband Exactly man but i dont blame markmusicman, some people have never felt this feeling before and they dont know that every person shows this on his own manner... so they think it's perverted instead.

I love this movie. I wish they'd hire pianists as actors though... I hate watching piano scenes where the actor doesn't actually play piano, kind of takes me out of it :(
@FabiodiBiase15 жыл бұрын
does anybody know who's playin piano on this track? Is Gilda Butta ?
@markmusicman I can't seem to find anything perverted about this at all. It's the manifestation of what every guy with any emotional depth feels when they see beauty and can't look away.
@Onlyrealmusic4life11 жыл бұрын
There was a scene earlier where his friend was asking where he gets inspiration to play. This guy grew up playing the piano and said he draws inspiration from everything around. He was born on a boat and never stepped foot on land. He sees people come and go and plays his own soundtrack for what he imagines there life is like. This is a love at first sight situation in which he conveys his unfiltered emotions through a free-styled piano piece and is truly "playing love" /watch?v=_hRmlcbgw3A

One of the greatest undiscovered love songs of all time...I am surprised that even more thousands have not yet commented on the glorious beauty of this Ennio Morricone melody....that's okay...I've lived most of my life experiencing the greatest classical music and in comparison, it's just about the same. Poor unfortunate fools that have not felt the tender stirrings of this deeply soulful song. cubanbach 1 minute ago
