Pesäpallo - Finnish Baseball

Ensimmäiset viralliset pesäpallon sarjaottelut pelattiin 90 vuotta sitten kaudella 1922. Lauri "Tahko" Pihkalan kehitystyön tuloksena oli syntynyt varta vasten suomalaisille räätälöity kansallispeli, joka yhdisti monipuolisen liikunnan taktiseen osaamiseen ja strategiseen ajatteluun. Finnish baseball (pesäpallo) was developed by Lauri Pihkala 1922. Pihkala put together different elements of European ball batting games, baseball and his own thoughts of ideal sport. Nowadays pesäpallo is a great unique Finnish success which is absolutely worth experiencing. Pesäpallo is even played in some countries outside Finland like Australia, Germany and Switzerland. The pitch goes up, has to fall on the round plate, or rise 1 m above the batter's head. No limit how high... The pitcher can play tactics with pitching, intentional foul when outing team needs to hit & run good. It depends how the bases are manned by the outing team, how many batters are out, how many strikes etc. The runner has to be in the base before the ball. On field he may try to sneak a bit, but if the ball comes, he has to be in the base. Ball doesn't have to touch the runner.

This is not about fast pitch. It's easier to hit the ball, yes. But because of that, the field is smaller, and the challenge is how the batter places the ball, and how he fools the outing team. And as a runner you gotta think fast, the outing team tricks inning team with their throws, and player positions & movements. The runner has to be in the base before the ball: catcher having the ball & touching base - runner is out. No need to touch the player.

+123 123 I saw a dumb remark like this from somebody who saw handball for the first time on KZbin. "It looks so easy". The problem is you are playing against opposition... so its equally "easy" for them, so by default no competition can be "easy" cause it is also easy for the opposition. It's easy to net in basketball compared to scoring in hockey or soccer. But basketball is not easier because you still have to play an equal sized opposition. Running 100 meters should be the easiest sport of them all, just run in a straight line!? But yet it's a professional athletic pursuit.

Zeus Mc. I can usually hit the ball, maybe, in two ways. But I wouldn't be able to place the ball in the right spot so that the fielders couldn't catch it immediately. Outside the school P.E. classes the pitcher will also make it difficult for you to hit AND place the ball, and he has ways to do that. So yeah, it's not that easy but it's also not too difficult like in baseball, so the whole team and both teams can actually participate in the game. The players have to be fit and fast.
