The reason why the food tends to be oily is because it provides fuel for the entire day, especially if you’re a labourer working all day in the heat. You should definitely try halwa puri (semolina pudding and fried bread), but you to get chai (spicy tea) to go with it, to cut the grease down.

Just a quick note: what you experienced is actually called Melmastiya, a unique form of Pashtun hospitality rooted in centuries of tradition-not just generic Pakistani hospitality which doesn’t exist Pashtuns in Pakistan and Afghanistan are renowned for their Hospitality to guests. Even if an enemy comes to their home, they have a duty to feed him. There’s a reason why the Taliban, being Pashtuns, did not give Osama to Americans simply because Osama bin Laden was a guest to Afghanistan and they had a duty to protect him. Similarly if you enter any Pashtun house, they will feed you, and make you very comfortable and will die to protect you if any harms comes

Dear Kay and Gogo , please visit the following places when you visit lahore 1) Badshahi mosque and fort .......have lunch or dinner at haveli restaurant overlooking the mosque 2) Dolmen mall, packages mall and emporium mall 3) anarkali market (huge traditional bazaar) 4) racecourse park 5) lawrence gardens (on mall road) 6) lahore museum and mall road with old colonial buildings 7) gulberg shopping 8) MM alam road for restaurants 9) classic food places laxmi chowk and food street 10) orange line metro train 11) breakfast buffet or high tea buffet in either modern 4 * hotel or in one of the renowned restaurants 12) fortress stadium , gaddafi stadium 13) shalimar gardens 14) etc 15) breakfast recommendations either in 4* hotel buffet breakfast in lahore or in one of the famous market places renowned for breakfast and lassi. 16) high tea in lahore is also fantastic.

Kheer is like rice pudding made of little bit of white boiled rice lots of lots of milk, pure thick milk, cream green cardamom plenty of sugar etc etc slowly cooked on low heat

This dish is called "Paayé", mainly the feet of the animal, brain and bone marrow are add-ons. They take several hours to cook, usually cooked at night to serve in the morning.

Yes This breakfast is not eaten in whole Pakistan. After 100 miles the language , tradition foods and culture varies as you reach to Karachi near to Arabian sea . You could feel wetern and native culture. What you ate here is totally different. Because all culture originated from there. People came and learned from that tradition and practice in various places in Pakistan.
