it was just to hide the raw edges of the zipper but its not necessary if u dont want to.

What's the point of the four pieces of fabric for the zipper? Does it add to the structural integrity or just for cosmetic purposes?

Structure but u can omit that if you feel your fabric is strong enough. I'm using cotton for this bed

this bed was actually made for my good friends dog that is about 20 lbs, i was using my dog as a model haha she did a good job even though she totally didnt fit on it.

Bigger bed please for that poor dog. Cute little bed isn't adequate for that animal to lay and sleep. Store-bought dog bed in the right size should be considered.

Wow... OK first of all that bed was not for my dog it was made to fit a crate for a 25lb dog... and second of all please don't judge if you don't know. This pup has since passed away and to read msgs like this makes me sad. I wish she was here even if it is on a little bed like this. Atleast she would be here with me. Nhala my late Labrador had 3 large costco beds littered through my house. She was our baby and deserved nothing less than large comfy beds for her aging body. Jeeze.....
