Quick Note: Because so many wonderful people were leaving messages memorializing their pets on the previous video, I thought you all deserved a nicer place to share your stories. I hope you enjoy this illustrated, spoken-word version of a poem that came from a very honest place. Love to all.

This (refinished) video is for anyone mourning the loss of a beloved pet. Whoever you are, however you're hurting, thank you for loving your friend. For reveling in the privilege of ushering another creature safely through its life, from beginning to end. For playing. For feeding and brushing. For giving them a tender home when they might've known none.
Know that you are not alone. And, again, on behalf of the dog or cat or horse or bird or whatever manner of critter you now find yourself missing...

Just lost my second feline son to cancer too young and far too soon. My eyes hurt from crying again. I was right there with him eyes on each other holding him. A soft blanket, I told my kids their ashes and mine to be spread together. Like others that are hurting wonder how a person can still have a heartbeat with the pain. I pray that we may all see each other again and ask the Lord to keep them till my time.

I lost Kona the guinea pig on the night of October 13th 2023, suddenly. He was 6 years and 5 months old....he was my baby....and I miss him so much. He was so special to my heart, and I miss him everyday. Rest in peace, bubba, momma will always love you, and has always and forever will be so proud of you. I lost my Bella one year and five months ago. I called in sick that day because deep down I think I knew it was coming. So I stayed home and we layed in bed all day then around six that night her little heart just gave out. I cried for weeks. I still cry sometimes and I believe if I live to be a hundred I'll cry for her then too. I have every intention of finding another dog. Someday when the time is right or maybe completely wrong the universe will send a new friend my way just like it did with Bella.

I'm sorry for your loss. Consider yourself lucky to have said a proper goodbye to your pet. My dad never let me, just a Quick hug & off to school, and then coming home to an empty house without anyone to welcome you. He doesn't even want to drive to where he buried them(but never marked their graves). I'm 25 & it's beeen many years since i lost them, but i am still grieving them, but no one gives a crap in my family.

My dog died today, he was a gift from my father who passed away last 2016, he was the closest thing that reminded me of the times i was actually truly happy. Now he's flying high with my dad. I will forever miss him. He was the one who's with me when no one could, but i was not there when he passed away, i was hundreds of miles away. It broke my heart thinking that in he's very last moment he's still hoping to see me again.

Me and my wife lost our Wheaton Terrier just under a year ago . We still are mourning her loss. We did not pick her she picked us . 16 years we had her in our life and when we found out she had cancer we tried our best to prepare for the last day we would be her humans. We spent our final hours holding her and giving her her favorite treats which was Jack links and Micky D,'s cheeseburgers.. She died just after 4 pm with a full belly and knowing how much she was loved. We brought her home and buried her in her favorite spot in the yard to chase squirrel and bark at the neighborhood around us . As we dug her spot the rain came down almost as hard as we was crying . I know people think I am nuts ,but I still get a glimpse of her from our kitchen window and hear her scratches at the back door when she was ready to come in.. Even in death she still protects her humans R.I.P Winnie Pooh Mom and Dad love you very much.

My cat was an ordinary cat, she wasn't that special for other people, but she meant the world to me. I got her when I was 7 so i didn't really appreciate the little things she'd do for me like offer me dead birds and blink slowly. I never thought that she actually loved me and now i couldn't ever replace her. I couldn't have asked for a better pet. I'm so thankful for the 7 years i had with her. RIP

My sweet baby boy crossed over the rainbow bridge 10/27/16 around 5:30pm, he was in my arms and didn't feel any pain (had the vet come home to euthanize). I got him when I was 2 years old and saying goodbye was the hardest thing I ever had to do and I miss my best friend everyday. This past Tuesday (12/04/18) I had to say goodbye to my cat. One of my closest friends for 20 years. This is by far the hardest loss that I've experienced from a pet. I've had many over the years, and I genuinely thought I had grown numb from loss. I'm thankful for all the years we had, even though I feel as though I took them for granted. And I'm thankful beyond words to have had her as my friend. To have had a friendship that transcended the pet/owner relationship. I lost my ferret Louie a few months back. no one really expects the loss of a weasel to mean much to anyone but to me it hurt so much. and my father was so attached to him it was so hard to watch them say goodbye to each other. but when I heard the part about finding another lonely animal and giving them the bowl... I felt like this really could have been from Louie himself. the day after we said goodbye to Louie, a little girl ferret showed up at our house desperately needing a home. everyone in town had heard about Louie passing and people were on the hunt to find my dad a new companion pet because they knew how close he was with Louie. My dad took her in immediately and she now eats out of Louie's bowl and sleeps in his bed. She came from a sad little rabbit cage but my dad has given her free reign of the house. just like he did when he rescued Louie. her name is baby bear and Louie has definitely passed his torch to her.

Tbh, it really shouldn't matter what type of pet you have, they become your family one way or another. And losing a family member is hard. When I was about 10, I lost my beta fish and I bawled my eyes out. Even though he was just a fish to most people, he was my friend and family you could say.

Even though we lost our most recent fur kid over a year ago, I still find little things like this now and then. I am trying to convince my hubby to think about adopting another dog or even a cat when we are able to in a few years. (We live/care for his father who's aging and suffering various dementia. When Indy died last year we promised him we wouldn't bring another fur kid into his home.) So we wait while he's with us. Hubby keeps saying it's too painful to have another animal. I know he has more love to give, and I feel certain that when the time comes, we'll adopt some more. I just can't see myself without another furkid forever. RIP Indianna the Wookiee Cub. I had to say goodbye to my beloved cat Gabby on September 22, 2016 and I admit that her loss hit me so hard that I've had a very difficult time dealing with it. I'm a farm kid who's had countless cats, dogs, and other animals over the years, but I have learned that no matter how much we tell ourselves or each other that we try not to get "too attached," in the end the loss of a beloved animal hurts more than words can express. And though our hearts are shattered each and every time a friend passes, there are a precious few furry babies whose loss seems to knock us down harder than others, which was the case with Gabby. She was a barn cat, the type of animal that many would dismiss as unimportant and unremarkable, but to me she was a beloved, beautiful friend. She accompanied me everywhere I went each day for many years, and she was, without a doubt, the most loving soul I have ever encountered. She was my friend and my family, and I lost a huge chunk of my heart when I had to let her go last fall. I am writing this because this video and the beautiful poem it so lovingly conveys has been a source of great comfort to me these last few months. I have watched this many times over and each time I imagine Gabby would probably say these very words to me if she had the chance. Thank you for this Vivienne, you have helped me and so many others through their grief with your beautiful words.

as soon as i opened the video i started to cry. i lost one of my dogs (i like to call her my soulmate) to terminal lung cancer. the next we rescued from a shelter when he was a puppy.. i cant believe they’re gone still. i listen to this every night. RIP Phoenix. RIP Storm

After the video (yes, I cried) I watched the out-takes and it was nice to see that this came from the heart. I remember my first Service Dog named Roxanne. She was a 120 pound Rottweiler with such an amazing heart. When I lost her my vet knew I would grieve do death so he pulled a scam on me. He told me he had a Rottweiler mix that had just undergone heartworm treatments and needed a quiet and loving place to recover. Her name was Lady Mia. After fourteen days we were bonded and the healing began. The vet later had me take another Rottweiler/Put Bull mix that he called DOG. This dog was so ugly from all the parasites and problems, but all he wanted was to be loved. The first time I saw him, our eyes met, and the bond was sealed. I named him Sozo (Greek for healer). He and Mia became service dogs for me as well. All have since gone to the Rainbow Bridge. In spite of the pain, my heart is all the richer for our time. Our beloved (and legendary) fur-babies want us to bring in another at their passing so our hearts can remain filled with love, and we can continue to learn the lessons that only our beloved friends can bring.

My grandmas dog Harley recently passed away.He was the only dog I knew from the moment I was born.He grew up with me,from a puppy to a full grown Beagle,he was there for me.For the times I cried and was sad,he licked my face and hands as if to say "It's ok,I'm here." I lost my dog Jake in 2014. The worst part about it is that it came out of nowhere. The day before he was fine but the next, everything went downhill. We had to make the tough decision to put him down. I still miss him so much.

Today my boy took his last breath in my arms and gave me a look as if to say I Love you that much it's OK to let me go. He was 10 years young a beautiful black and white pomeranian the size of a nine shoe and the weight of 3 lbs. I let me boxer, Daisy Mae leave this world and the cancer she suffered with behind yesterday. I loved her so much and so did Oreo. Oreo is a rescue we got when she lost her other friend almost 2 years ago. Oreo mourns with me but he knew the last few days that time was growing near. Your poem touched my heart like no other. My daughter sent it to me yesterday. And, I listened to it several times as the tears fell. I knew she was ready and it was the right time but the loss, oh the loss. I pray that God puts his hand gently on Oreo & I and reminds of the love and not the pain. I know we'll get through and we'll be ok and we'll see Daisy again one day. After 10 years with nearly 14 I just let my dog move on at home... after 10 years+ heart problems. We ran on the beach an hour before, he ate his favorite treats and fell asleep after only a few seconds. Be free Flucki, you and mom can now cuddle again.

Lost my Thrawn cat age 14 five years ago yesterday. I still miss him. He was the sweetest funniest cat. He greeted me every morning and slept on my feet every night. Even though he hated water he would lay at the base of the tub when I took a bath. So I could pet him (wet hands and all). The Pudge Cat Supreme will be in my heart forever!

My calico Patches passed away a couple of years ago. About a day or two after, I was scrolling through Facebook and the ASPCA had just posted this video. I started crying all over again, especially around 'I'm sorry I hurt you by saying goodbye'. This is such a lovely poem that came to me when I needed it. It's been over 2 years and I still can't replace her with another cat.

Wow, that was beautiful. My sweet boy Scout died 3 years ago and I still miss him every day and cry for him. It was sudden and he was alone and it took me a long time to forgive myself for bot being with him. I gave him 10 happy years but what he gave me is something I can't describe.
