I think the Pets might be just as deluded as the Dems these days, and I say that as a formerly huge fan of the Pets (seen them 4 times, once sat on the same row as Kylie in Hammersmith). They are objectively making lame music lately. I genuinely wish they just did their Performance tour and then split up, they'd have been forever legends. Yes, yes I hear you PSB acolytes, they have made some half-decent tracks since 1991, but on balance (especially since we voted for Brexit), their music has been rather monotonous, aside from maybe Monkey Business. This new album, Nonetheless, is boring and pretentious. Sure, I know, nobody can recreate their earlier glories. Some people age like fine wine, just look at Trump, still banging out the hits even in 2024. This Beauty Has Laid Seige to the City track has no melody, appealing chords, interesting lyrics, hook or baseline, sorry!
