I've been a PSB fan since 1988. I literally owned every last one of their Albums, Singles, Compellations, etc. for everything pre-2005 or so(and all albums and most singles since then). This is still one of my favorite songs.

This should have been included on “Behaviour” and was in line up to be one of the single but Chris Lowe didn’t think it wouldn’t fit the record. However it ended up being a B-side for “Was It Worth It?” a remix by Moby was also produced for the song featuring on alternate versions of the single.

This song and It must be obvious are my fav b-sides from PSB! A fancy masterpieces... as usual on them.

"Miserablism" is about having a particular attitude towards life - a "philosophy" of being negative and feeling down, so that if bad news hits you, it doesn't really impact you as much, because you're already down and almost out. The "is is and isn't isn't" line is what a friend of Neil Tennant's dad said on his death bed, apparently! And Neil thought it was pertinent to the song and put it in.

"Just for the sake of it make sure you're always frowning. It shows the world that you've got substance and depth." Post-modernist irony successfully dissing on post-modernist irony. These guys were/are off-the-chart brilliant.

In hindsight, I think they did the right thing. The End of the World is a sublime, gorgeous song, and it fits well, with the album's gentle sadness, and this song ended up as a wonderful hidden gem, a song well worth being discovered and treasured.

This track originally should have been on the "Behavior-album", but was (in the last minute) replaced by "The end of the world". If "Miserablism" would have been on the album, the album would have been somehow even "darker", I think. "Miserablism" is a great track with great lyrics - ends up every philosophical discussion immediatley - "is is and isn't isn't" - nothing more to say - I´ll dedicate my life to miserablism! Really somehow frustrating but also cool! PSB are fantastic!
