@@mrpete222 I've been following your channels for several years now, and I can assure you that you've been one of the most positive influences in my life. Your channel has helped me through rough times, if only because of your dry, wonderful humour. As far as machining goes, well. that goes without saying! I wish I could know how many would-be machinists have become actual machinists thanks to your channel. Here's to you!

I started watching your videos more than 10 years ago after I bought an ancient Atlas 10-D lathe (1937 model) and found you after doing a search on youtube for "Atlas lathe"..it was your 4-jaw demonstration. I've not missed a video since and what I have learned from you since that time gave me the confidence to purchase a larger and more modern 12x36 machine and a milling machine as well. Your teaching has enabled me to use those machines for both fun and for profit and your videos on bench work have expanded my knowledge in those areas also. I owe you a lot, Mr. Pete..as do so many other viewers of your channel. Not only for the instruction but for the sheer entertainment and the life lessons you have taught us, probably without realizing you were setting such a wonderful example for so many of us. As I conclude my comment as I always do..know that it is heartfelt: Thanks, Mr. Pete! :-)

@@mrpete222 don't worry about Corona. It's the biggest hoax EVER perpetrated on the world. The Gateway pundit April 10th article listed only 150 deaths in the US due to Corona for people without a preexisting condition or comorbidity.
@DarronBlack
@DarronBlack 4 жыл бұрын
@@ronshekelson *sigh*... that'''s idiotic. That's an awful set of human trash spreading whatever conspiracy theories demonize half the country and bring in the donations. Truth or not, it doesn't matter to them as long as they "help" their side and make you hate people that don't agree with you even more. Even finding this concept in more honest publications, they're counting everything under the sun as preexisting conditions. How many Americans are technically overweight? High blood pressure, hypertension (even controlled)? Diabetic? Old is a preexisting condition? With the latest about no-symptom spreaders being "very rare", we shouldn't be shutting down (pretty huge screwup there, IMHO) but we should all be wearing masks out around other people. It's to protect people like Mr. Pete here, and my mid-70s lunch buddies. 150 people. F*ing hell. It's ridiculous how many people will listen to anonymous social media and conspiracy theories and ignore actual professional media. Sure, there's a lot of screwups in the media but it's a huge step up from random online hearsay and outright foreign propaganda attacks. We used to make fun of the conspiracy theorists ("bar codes on the back of street signs are for the UN to be able to find their way around when they invade", etc)... let's find our way back to that. The current stats are 115,000 dead in the US. Sure, some of those are people that died that happened to test positive but CV had nothing to do with it. If that's "bar codes on street signs" crazy level high, MAYBE only 20% are real COVID cases. That's still 23,000 people. I'd guess it's probably more like the other way around.

Sorry, Lyle that I'm behind - was really sick this week. I always enjoy tours of Kennedy and Gerstner tool boxes people have purchased at estate sales, auctions, or inherited. No one should be jealous. You have put in the years and the effort. You share the fun of exploring the box and the tools, and you certainly didn't have to do that - you did it to share with other people and we love you for it. Ignore the trolls. Any attention to them just encourages more poor behavior, and none of them know you well enough to merit your concern. Wishing you good health!

My grandfather was a tool and die maker. I got his machinist box prior to his passing so I got a chance to talk to him about the tools that were in the box. I still use the tools to this day 50 years later. Many have his name etched on them. It gives me a feeling of connection with him when I use them. There is a lot of Starrett but there are several Craftsman tools in the lot. He claimed that they were made by Starrett at the time. I don't know if that is true or not but they are good quality made in USA tools non the less. Thanks for sharing.

Mr. Pete; I can only speak for myself of course but there is no need to apologize when you ask people not to post critical comments as far as I'm concerned. Heck with them if they don't like your channel; they can watch something else. I really enjoy your videos and appreciate all you do. Great footage on the Barnes lathe. I have a Barnes #6 with motor conversion, a bit bigger than that one. Ran it this morning in fact. Its not super accurate, but can do a lot of work. I had a little no-name vise, the kind that clamps to the edge of a table. Got it for $3, only says "Made in USA." But the little clamp foot that spreads the clamping load out on the table was gone. So I made a 7/16-14 threaded workholder, put the screw in there, cut a new feature on the end of the screw, then made a new foot for the clamp, and crimped it around the screw (so it can turn freely but not fall off). Great little project! Thanks for sharing your knowledge with all us newbies!

I have been watching your video's for over three years. I have smile after smile on my face and think back to metal shop in high school and the South Bend Lathes and other machine shop tools. This was in 1962 thru 1966, I'm 71 YO now. Anyway, I really love your video's and may watch them for hours at a time. Also, I have assembled my own little machine shop i.e. 9 in. Precision S. Bend, 1 S. B. 16 In. two S. B. 16/24 lathes, 1 Logan 14 in., Bridgeport mill, two Atlas Horizontal mills, 1 Carlton Radial Arm Drill with 4 ft. arm. All my machine shop tooling is in pretty nice shape. I can and do spend hours & hours making stuff and listening to 60's/ 70's music. My most recent project is making (4) heavy duty platform (18" X 4" X 3" H) moving plates for moving heavy machines around in my shop. I'm a retired helicopter pilot, Vietnam (70/71) & Blackhawk Down Unit (TF 160th) Maint. Test pilot & retired in 2004. Anyway, the Best to You and your Family and Be Smart... stay away from the public as much as possible. This COVID 19 will put you in the grave in a heart beat. @@mrpete222 Yes, Sir, I'm in Seventh Heaven in my little shop. Take this as a ... Super Duper Comment !!! You really Explain Things .. On-the-Money. I worked in a machine shop years ago and was trained by the 2nd shift shop foreman (Henry). He was very knowledgeable and his hands on experience was his strong point. He took me under his wing and I did my best to -- follow his guidance and became in-a-way... Henry's Clone. Anyway, I smile when I think of him and remember what Henry taught me. Also, I smile when I hear you ... Pointing Out Do's and Don'ts. Also, Keith Rucker has become my 2nd Favorite. I'm about to purchase a K. T. Horizontal Mill, No. 2 H, like Keith's. Lyle, what a score! That gentleman definitely took care of those tools. I'd certainly like to find a Heathkit TV (or any Heathkit item) at an auction or yard sale. ;) That old lathe looks a bit like mine, a 1911 10-inch South Bend lathe that started its life as a pedal lathe too, but was modified like that one with a jackshaft & electric motor. I wish mine has all of its change gears and accessories like that one had.

Thank you for sharing this, MrPete! About 30 years ago, I worked for a metal shop. My Grandfather was the President of that company. We made faceplates for L.S. Starrett. The faceplates were for their indicators and Vernier calipers. We also made the L. S. Starrett rulers in various sizes. I actually owned one of the Kennedy tool boxes you showed in this video. There are a lot of memories there. The gentlemen that taught me how to machine had the nice wood tool boxes much like the one that you showed from the auction. I don't think I could afford the wood tool box back then. They were making far fewer numbers of them. Thanks again for a great video!

It lasted 10 years with daily use. It made a nice gift to one our apprentices when I retired.. Fully loaded with tools.. I sold the rest of the boxes and tools on Ebay and basically broke even with the pricing and delivery of what I paid during the past 40+ years of working...
