People don’t even respect the legends of yesteryear let alone an average nigha that made one play. Larry Brown intercepted two passes to seal the game for the cowboys in Super Bowl 30. If he doesn’t get even one of them The Steelers take the lead and might win. This is also with a Steelers defense that held the nfl leading rusher to 49 yards

People keep calling it the worst play call of all time, but I've always seen that as a reactionary take. The Seahawks ran similar passing plays at the goal line for 3 years and nothing went wrong. Nobody walks away thinking "why didn't they hand it to beast mode" when it works. The design is great. A pick move that makes it an easy walk in TD. Browner and Butler did their homework. Browner stood up, Kerse. Butler jumped the route. It was just an excellent read by them. 70 times out of 100 it's a TD. 29 times out of 100 it's incomplete. 1 time out of 100 it's intercepted. It just so happened to be on the biggest stage

@Gabriel2oh6

Wilson was never the type of quarterback you could just sneak in at the goal line. I don’t remember Russ ever having success doing that. Besides, we would just be running into the same clock management and timeouts issue when that doesn’t work either. Passing made sense. We can argue that it was the wrong read or wrong type of pass play, but there was nothing wrong with them throwing the ball.
@Edward_Nebiolo
@Edward_Nebiolo 10 ай бұрын
@@Gabriel2oh6 do you remember what the 2022 eagles would do on 3rd or 4th and inches? The tush push. It only failed them 2 times out of 30 something times. Wilson may not be a qb who could sneak and break the goal line on his own but with Marshall Lynch pushing Wilson in would definitely work. They probably should’ve chose to throw the ball on 3rd down after they used their final timeout if their tush push failed on 2nd down

Oh he definitely got criticized, especially in the sports media those first couple weeks after it happened. But, i think people didn't harp on it for long because Russ did something that most QBs (especially AR) never do; he took 100% responsibility for throwing the pick from moment one after it happened. In their emotional reaction, everyone assumed that he was just saying the "right thing" to the press to protect his coach, who already had a reputation for blowing it in the clutch. But Russ blamed himself; wrote a book about it in fact. Russ was not an elite QB before that incident; he became an elite QB after that incident.

People ignore tons of facts. 1. Pete lost ‘04 natty because he ran the ball 4 times in a row on the goal line. 2. Pick plays weren’t a penalty in ‘14. 3. Malcom made a great play and was able to make that play because Bill burned him on the same play in practice and singled him out on it. Ran the play once. So both Bill and Malcom deserves credit. 4. Russ threw a terrible pass. Pick plays should either be caught or incomplete. Never intercepted because the ball is supposed to be on the guy to slightly behind and lower. Russ’s pass was high and in front of the WR. Same exact timing and play, with a better located pass, at worst the play is incomplete. 5. Everyone knew Beastmode was getting the rock. Best time to change it up and run a low risk pass play. 2nd down. You can still hand it off 2 more times.

If you wanted to throw a pass, with a threat like Marshawn in the backfield, YOU THROW A PLAY-ACTION PASS! Not a potentially poorly executed inside Slant. 🤦‍♂️ People, including Pete, can say what they want, but that was a terrible play call...

@@jamiesp3901RPOs weren't that popular then. When the Eagles went on that 2017 run with Nick Foles, that's when you saw it being mainstream. Only a few OC knew how to run the RPO at the time, and the Seahawks spread offense isn't made for RPOs either

Run it on 2nd down if Beast doesn't get in call a time out. Throw on third. And last play run or throw. There used all four downs. Lynch would have scored on the 2nd as Pats were ready for the pass.
