The question I want answered is why the flight controller allowed a visual avoidance when there was a collision warning, could he not just have ordered the helo to alter course slightly?

@@g-man2228 The first part looks like it’s correct, based on the evidence to date, in combination with comments from military helicopter pilots. The second part is speculation as an immediate cause. However, DEI logically, makes safety-critical operations less safe, other things being equal.

Why on Earth was the DEI-trans pilot carry out maneuvers as if to imagine two other airliners as airborn enemy combatants!?! He had two close calls moments before with other jets before smashing into the third plane. Almost as if he was engaging in a dogfight, and then disengaging at the last moment. Heads are going to roll over this!!!!
