Giants fan here. If Pete beat his wife, had an alcohol problem, did drugs or had a gambling addiction to anything other than baseball, he would be in the HOF. He made a mistake, but he's paid for it 20 times over. Pete Rose deserves to be in Cooperstown.

Pete will not go to the Hall, he won't do it their way which is begging and pleading. Besides, baseball keeps referring to rehabilitation and Rose which no Commissioner has ever defined. When there is money involved like this there is no rules, no integrity, just a bunch of filthy rich bullshiters trying to get top dollar for a worn out form of sports entertainment. How many people have gone to a sporting event and said this price is reasonable? The only thing they don't charge you for is using the bathroom. Maybe they should then fans could take a shit on the field, stands, even on players.

Tim Johnson I have gone to a game and said this price was reasonable. Go to a rangers game in Texas, buy the Chilula( don’t know if that’s the right name) seats. Anywhere from 32-60$ for all you can eat, burgers, chicken,popcorn,hotdogs,nachos,peanuts,soda and ac. To be honest, those tickets are way to low for all you get. So don’t say everything is overpriced or you have to pay for everything. We didn’t pay for parking either, we just parked at six flags because we have free parking there.

@@allcinionexplainsitall5869 He should say that not only did he bet on baseball but he bet on the Reds. He should say that he realize that that means when he didn’t bet on the Reds that gamblers knew to bet against the Reds. He should admit to lying his ass off for years and years and years and years and years about betting on baseball and the Reds. He should say that by betting on the Reds he may have hurt careers by overworking starters or treating a May 5 game like the World Series. He doesn’t say that. He just kisses up to Bench and Perez and Morgan. I’m sure we’ll never find out if he threw meaningless September games to payback gamblers. But given that he lied about everything else and that he was a degenerate gambler, it seems likely that he did.

The Great Imposter So what?! Explain why betting on games as a manager should keep him out of the Hall of Fame. You seem to think it’s self-evident. It’s not.,It makes no sense. Joe Jackson belongs in the Hall, too. The Hall is for great players. They were great players. They belong there. He was punished when he was kicked out of professional baseball. But what’s gambling as a manager got to do with his greatness as a player? Nothing!

I don’t know that I agree with you on this one. I believe Pete should be in the HOF. Just listened to Johnny on Dan Patrick’s show, and he, Joe Morgan, and Tony Perez tried to negotiate with Peter Uberroth, who said if certain conditions weren’t met, he was out for life. They went to Pete, and he told em, “I’m gonna beat this.” And, he didn’t. Giamatti hung him out to dry. Which was his right as commissioner. I’m a lifelong Reds fan. Watched this lineup many times as a teenager and young adult. Respect all of them as the greatest players in my lifetime so far. This was one situation where Pete wasn’t gonna beat it, he should’ve admitted what he did, been an ambassador to the minors, telling them what gambling does to their career(tarnishes it for life) then, I personally believe he’d been reinstated by now and eligible for the HOF.

This is a good part of the Pete Rose Statue Ceremony because it has Reds announcer and Red players from 1960's, 1970's 1980's. 1990's and Reds players of today in dugout. Mostly it has the Fans. See, that is what smart aleck national cable sports media don't understand. Look at the hometown fans in this. These fans deserve this. Not everything ever in baseball happened in New York and Boston. OK, do you get that. The Fans of Cincinnati deserved this.
@frankanderson4113
@frankanderson4113 7 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. So many so-called small market teams have an amazing tradition and have had some of the greatest baseball players to ever play the game. Cincinnati is second to none. They happened to be priveleged with a team in the mid-seventies that will always be in the conversation of greatest teams of all time. Pete Rose was just someone you didnt want to see as an opponent. I believe if Johnny Bench hadn't been injured and had surgery after his MVP campaign that there is no telling what he may have accomplished and he still went on to be a hall of fame. He was never the same after that injury. He may have posted 500 home runs and won several more MVP awards had he avoided injury. Cincinnati definitely has a history worth celebrating and it's so important that each new generation of fans is taught about the greats of days gone by.

You're absolutely correct. When he went to Philadelphia, he turned them into a World Series contender immediately. I enjoy watching Pete during his days in Philly as much as any time in his career. He was simply awesome and that time in his career is often overlooked. What he did in Philadelphia proves beyond any question just how good he was and how VALUABLE he was to a baseball team. He is just a winner. Period. And his respect and desire for baseball and for winning was contagious.

Pete Rose was my boy hood hero growing up. Even though I was a Die hard Dodgers fan I was a big time Pete Rose and Johnny Bench fan. I am not going to lie , it hurt me when the Reds beat my Dodgers back in the 1970's . However i did root for the Reds in 1975 and 1976 to win the World Series .My friends ask me how can you root for the Reds when they beat the Dodgers. My response was hey I got to root for the team in the N.L West. It's better to root for the Reds than arch enemy Giants. At the time the Reds were in the N.L West. If there is one record that Cincinnati Reds fans can be proud of and that is for almost 50 years, The Cincinnati Reds Reds still remain the last National League Team to win back 2 back World Series titles. To this day no National League team has made that accomplishment. Cincinnati be proud to hold that record.

Pete Rose is one of the top 3 players ever in my book! I know some talk about him but that's ok. I remember 4192 some have forgotten that great moment. But Pete Rose I will always remember 🙂

If there's anyone else than conjures as much emotion still to this day in the game of baseball? Please, for fuck's sake, put this man in the HOF before his time on Earth is up!!

Pete Rose is a Hall of Famer. Most base hits by a major league player. Charlie hustle. I enjoyed your play and quotes. You were a true entertainer and great baseball player. Clements, Bonds, Mc Guiere and Blue deserve a second chance and should be in the Hall of Fame. 2023 Pete, Barry, Roger, Mark and Vida. What a class act and class baseball players. Pete? do you want it. Let's do it. Great baseball players deserve the Hall of Fame. Pete, Barry, Roger, Mark, and Vida. We deserved to be out of the Hall for 20 years. Penalty served, and we will tell all about our illegal doings and ask the fans for forgiveness. May God Bless us all.

St Louis Cardinals fan here. I never liked Rose - big ego, jerk, shady character. BUT, should he be in the HOF? Absolutely. If players today would only have the same work ethic as Rose. Leave his personal life out of this. No one played the game as hard as he did. I'm sure there are plenty of HOF members who did things far worse than Rose.

This shit makes me want to be a reds fan. That's how amazing Rose is. If he isnt in the hall by the time he dies I vow to never watch another (non Cardinals) baseball game for the rest of my life.

Z Y the greatest number 14. If he can pass cobb than he deserves to be in baseballs hall of fame for sure. Not just the Cincinnati Reds. I had the great pleasure of meeting him on April 8th in Virginia at the Dulles Expo Center. He really didnt talk much but i was number 77 in line so he was probally tired but he gladly signed my 1941 Reds hat and took a picture with me. He personally made the hat out to me. He wrote “Chris.. a great fan. Pete Rose” and smiled and shook my hand and that is something i will always be greatful to him for. He deserves to be in the MLB hall of fame. If the Reds can forgive him for his past then its time the MLB should too. I am and will always be a Pete Rose fan.

It’s time to put Pete Rose into the Hall of Fame. Can we petition the veterans committee to get him in the ballot to see how they would vote. The Hall of Fame is not even associated with MLB, it is a museum about all of baseball. Growing up, he was the best player to watch. I remember getting the paper every day to read the box score the closer he got to Cobb. Great speech Pete.
