Totally agree with you there...until Nadal who really challenged Federer in his Grand Slam victories?? Pete Sampras had so much more competition when he won his 14 Grand Slams! I'm loving seeing Federer made to sweat finally! Nadal's so deserving of his success because he's earnt it through sheer hard work and determination!

It is you that needs to seek help...what a load of crap you have just written there! I've had the pleasure of meeting Pete Sampras and he is so down to earth and humble! He in no way has delusions of grandeur!

@pps1fan I agree. I think sampras is a playa who figure out how to beat somebody. I think had it been sampras of 93-97 it's unlikely he would of lost to federer. Even the current federer best in 2004-07. I pick sampras over him on fast grass all the time.
@slamandjam2
@slamandjam2 5 жыл бұрын
Thutmosis7 if it's the old fast grass I would say they would split the wins pretty evenly. Maybe slight edge to Pete. But Roger has him on any other court and modern grass courts

@DanimalLawlz yes but lost in the next round so that win didn't mean anything plus it was a tight 5 set match which could've gone either way! Had they met more than once then I think Pete would've had more success than losses!

Not sure if Sampras would be as dominant on today's grass because it's a lot slower. But he was surely the toughest to break serve against at Wimbledon in his time.

@godfaathr You obviously haven't read the book.. Andre speaks highly of Pete several times. However, he tries to communicate his real feelings toward every event and person as they actually were. It's called Open, so for him to just be polite and suck up to everyone involved in his tennis career would be hypocritical. Everyone I know that has read the book has come away with more appreciation and respect for Andre.

I give Agassi the ground/baseline game but Pete is more the total package because he was great at the net and had a great serve. Pete's running crosscourt forehand is one of the best.

Sorry but you are way off the mark here! He doesn't represent anything pointless or meaningless knowledge! He is a role model in the sense that he achieved all his success through hard work and determination and did it with humility, dignity and class! He was never motivated by the money side of things...he was motivated by the history of the game! He turned down so many lucrative sponsorship deals during his career which so he could've made even more money but he chose to focus on tennis!
