PURE FREAKING TALENT!!! I'd take this raw energy and passion over the drudge of so called "talent shows" on now days. How personable and real when a cough by the host is left in the broadcast, reminding us the focus on the show is and always should be on the product and not production. Thanks so much for the post

I find it amusing how Pete Seeger - who came from a wealthy Northern family - dresses in rustic workman's clothes to be authentic and talks about bluegrass like an archaeologist describing a lost Amazon tribe. Then in walks the Stanley Brothers and the Clinch Mountain Boys looking sharp in their suits, not a hair out of place and put on a professional performance. Ralph and Carter took their music and their professon seriously and felt their music should be presented respectfully and with honor. Yes, Chick Striplin is "dressed down" but the man was a total pro - his role in the band was the comic, but his bass playing is bedrock solid. They do not make artists like the Stanley Brothers, Flatt and Scruggs or Bill Monroe any more - these guys were the REAL deal! PS - the sad thing is that only months after this was filmed, we lost Brother Carter - the finest bluegrass singer that ever lived.

So I guess you think Pete Seeger who was blacklisted and tried to spread good will around the world through promoting folk and blues wasn’t as authentic as carter Stanley who although very talented died at 41 from cirrhosis

"dresses in rustic workman's clothes to be authentic" Dude he's wearing a sweater lol. Bluegrass was a huge commercial thing in the 50s and then it fell out of favor. The folk music revival was the last place that the old bluegrass bands could find an audience in the 60s. You'll find this is true for the Stanley Brothers as well as Flatt & Scruggs. Also, Pete knows they were the real deal. He was trying to showcase them for new fans to find out about their music!

Isn't this something!! Pete Seeger, who had been blacklisted for years due to his left-wing views and former membership of the CPUSA, nevertheless has the respect of the The Stanley Brothers and the Clinch Mountain Boys about has down-home as you could get. Perhaps it was because Pete's record "How-to-Play the Five-String Banjo was purchased and used by banjo pickers everywhere and that the Stanley Brothers owe their career and livelihood to Pete. Ah, the power of music!! Wish music could bring us together today!!

The Stanley Brothers owe their career to Pete Seeger? Sorry, but that’s completely wrong.

The Stanleys made themselves through hard work.....I would never diminish Ralph and Carter like that....they were not stupid bumkins...they were down home and raised with music...Pete was a stop in their journey...even for a Red he at least in this broadcast gave them due respect.

When you see this and the like! Then American idol it angers me because there are such amazing musicians to be heard like welch and wrawlings Alisun Krause an union station the peas all sisters the cox family Brad paisley Dempsey band! Etc! There’s only two things in this world I hate and manufacturing bands that mime with smoke and mirrors is the both of them
