I grew up in Hollywood Fl and I can tell you the FL 40 F feels as cold as 20 F in Atlanta where I now live. It’s the wind in FL that gets you.

Thanks Pete, as we just moved here to north central Florida, I did put a small garden in to battle food prices and of course good home grown food. I have one kind of lettuce, beets, broccoli, peas, cabbage and Brussel sprouts. We will see. Everything looks great. Appreciated this video so much. You are only about two hours south of us. We got 34 temp this am. But everything is very happy. Getting two large greenhouses in the next couple of weeks for all maximum planting during heat and cold. Thanks again. I did see your need multch sign about a month ago, passing by your newest property. When we get ready for planting bigger trees and flowers, etc, will be stopping in to purchase from you. You rock and have been listening to you for months way before we moved from WA state!!!

Great to hear everything is being recovering. I know there will be lots of work. I suggest that you guides avoid the exposed soil as it reduces nutrients, raises temperature of the soil and allow rain to wash remaining nutrients away from the crops. But, hey… my respects. I know you are very knowledgeable and experienced farmers.

So glad to see your garden thriving! We are out near Myakka State park in Sarasota. We were hit pretty hard here with tree damage etc. My garden was a disaster, but I’m slowly getting it back up and running. Nice to see all your green seedlings! It gives me hope. I worried about your municipal compost you received. We had 3 truckloads of municipal compost. All was great except one load that was contaminated. Two beds had persistent herbicide or other contaminant. We bought a large tomato plant but when I added that compost leaves curled. The other bed never grew. We replaced the soil.

Put burlap or some kind of cover over the carrot seeds and that helps with germination. They need dark and humid conditions.

Thanks for this, as I do remember someone on the net saying that if you cover the seeds after planting, like a wood plank they will germinate better. I will be a little late, but will plant them soon!

It was definitely just poor seed my other varieties came up super thick… over seeded just in case but now I need to thin them… definitely wasn’t conditions that caused the poor germination.

Hi Pete Glad that Ian didn’t damage much at your place. Hi Nick, are you planing to use mulch on top of the walkways to absorb excessive moisture and perhaps keep weeds at bay. I know not mixing raw mulch in the beds due to the nitrogen draw, using it from walkways once it has broken down and using it as a compost, before replacing the mulch. What method of planting are you using traditional or no dig?
