I used to have a mobile chicken pen, and once id harvested my vegetables, id leave the leaf and root matter and put the chook pen over the area. The eggs were exceptional and the soil was cleared and fertilised by the chickens. Great gardens btw.

Jim is such a nice guy. After you featured him last summer I e-mailed him with several questions not honestly expecting an answer. Too my surprise and delight he answered my message with a very informative answer.I enjoyed all the farms featured on Justins tour last year but Jim was hands down my favorite.Then your feature last summer was awesome !! I may make it to Common ground this year and if I do I am looking him up to say hello and thank him for all the inspiration !! As always Pete you feature content that sets the bar !!! Thank you Jim for sharing what you do and love !!

Flea Beetles.......put a layer of grease on one side of a piece of cardboard, take cardboard grease side down, wave 1-2 inches above the plants with flea beetles. Flea beetles jump up when afraid. They get stuck in the grease, bag it up and throw away. You'll caught them, repeat as needed.

Florida is under ground already under sea level , you have to buy soil and bed it well to grow , dig a yard up 2 ft down and run a liner to stop weeds and sand and clay crap from going to soil and the plants roots , and fill it with soil and compost mixed. Don't just do soil by itself. It needs a super mix. And then don't put too much nutrients in the soil in Florida , just feed normally with a gallon mixed water at a time. Don't use hoses and spray , don't use well water , in less your know where the source is . Florida is hot and humid avoid those plants that don't do well In heat. Okay well I'm ranting .. have fun

@AcornHillHomestead
@AcornHillHomestead 6 жыл бұрын
Jaemee Gasaway Amen to that! I think the time has come for us to begin planting our yards for food too. It can save tons of money. Even the organic food and veg in the store is crap and way too expensive. Its also hard and tasteless. Jim shows us how we don’t have to plant the old fashioned way in a garden with straight lines and it can be gorgeous as well. Win win. It also brings us closer to nature and gets conversation going with neighbors. We need to be outside and get out heads out of the electronic devices. Look at the Back To Eden Method. Paul Gautchi is amazing on this topic. We need to think completely different about our food and how to take controls of our health.

Just tuning into these series of videos.All i can say is wow!! The amount of knowledge attained in just one video is incredible!!! We are definitely raising kids the wrong way when you watch what they could be learning and thriving from.This is the future of today’s youth since we can see how terrible society overall has become.The culture has become just too toxic for everyone that this is the perfect way out of that cesspool.We send our kids to school who’ll never learn this which is essential to life.The remedy is here and looks like we don’t have any choice anyway.Thank you too all in the making of these videos.

Jim has been a huge inspiration of mine: has he thought of building the potatoes up? Mollison talks about potato towers. Use chicken wire, small amount of compost and then mulch to the top, continuously adding mulch as it reduces over time. Increases yield by large amounts as tubers emerge from stem. also looks cool and adds 3d shape to the garden.

Each grows food or makes money doing what they Love, or sell items through the community center or give a class to people wanting to learn. I just found a place with all the right elements. So looking for various different skilled persons who would work well together and be able to develop their own style and income. Thanks for good ideas.

This is absolutely epic. And his work must be affecting his neighborhood, if people can see this happening with their eyes it will be much sooner before this happens to everyone's front yards.

"Pests ARE the messengers"....so true! They are indicators of why a crop isn't doing well....very rarely do crops fail BECAUSE of pests...its the pests that are telling you that the crop doesn't like the environment!😀🍅

I believe otherwise due to experience. In my area of the world, it doesn't matter what you plant or how you tend it, pests will destroy it if you do nothing to stop them. Fruit trees, for example, squirrels will destroy the entire crop before it even ripens. Squirrels will also eat ALL of the pecans on pecan trees before they ripen. Practically all walnuts will be destroyed by worms by the time they ripen. Crows and deer will destroy your corn. Birds will destroy your tomatoes. Aphids and ants are literally everywhere for late spring and halfway through the summer. June bug larvae will eat all the roots of your plants. Racoons and rodents will devour anything they figure out is tasty. You can't just "let nature handle it" or you will never get anything in my area because the pests will destroy it/eat it all. I did some testing and planted some food plants and just let nature handle it. They didn't do well at all. All were stunted from pest damage and some managed to produce something, but the pests got all of it before it could ripen. In the end. it was a waste of time.

Great to know about that variety of Kale. I grew Russian kale this last year here in CO & I was gobsmacked by it. You can't kill it. The stuff grows exceptionally fast, and is absolutely gorgeous with a bright purple veins. Very tasty and crispy.

I'm from Florida and moved to maine , I was a welder now im a farmer....if salt is building up in the well. Use SLF 100 to deplete it all out in less than 3 months your soil is now 80 percent salt free. Mix a bunch and water the entire soils areas. Before planting , slf 100 the whole land. 3 weeks later take your germinated seeds or clones that root and then plant them 3 weeks after treating the soil with a bunch of SLF 100
