RIP Peter, THE voice of golf without question or equal. Was lucky to grow up in an era when each sport had its own unique commentator that brought so much to the coverage...now they have all gone it’s very monotone. Thank you for making spending hours listing to your commentary such a pleasure

Peter Alliss was by far the best commentator still on the BBC. Whether you were particularly interested in golf or not, it was worth watching just to listen to Peter. Then the BBC decided it didn't want to cover golf anymore - stupid. The BBC used to be damn good once, the best in the world. Now look at it - or maybe don't.

Someone must remember the 1982 Open at Royal Troon when Peter commented on a scene where an Austin Allegro had been driven into one of the pot bunkers...stewards or police not sure....and said.."well look at that...all of Ayrshire around and he's put in there".....priceless...

Reasonable commentator, very average golfer (never featured in the Open and snatched Ryder Cup defeat from the jaws of victory at Wentworth all those years ago).
@chrisledbetter92784 жыл бұрын
Scott Mallory Reasonable commentator? Are you lost? The man is a legend. Weather you like his humor or not, there is no denying the fact that he has been the voice of some of the most iconic moments in golf history.
@rhamlyn1004 жыл бұрын
He finished 4th in the Open, you clot.
@scottmallory2984 жыл бұрын
What year was that? 8th was his best position - twice at Birkdale but he was several shots back and never contended for the title.
@scottmallory2984 жыл бұрын
It's not his humour but his snide remarks that grates. He was particularly unkind on Van de Velde. Faldo and Azinger are harsh commentators but they are major winners....
@rhamlyn1004 жыл бұрын
@@scottmallory298 You're right, sorry. But a top 10 finish in the British Open is good. I thought you meant he never competed in one.
