So, I looked it up. Prison toilets are made of stainless steel. Stainless steel has a much higher melting point than aluminum, which translates into more electricity or fuel to recycle them by melting them down. *304 stainless steel is 8% nickel, and many people are allergic to nickel. It’s bad enough getting a rash on one’s hand from handling stainless steel, can you imagine swallowing it???* They’d probably need to be redesigned with some type of single-use screw tops, but this brings us back to #1. A sealed can made of stainless steel would be too physically tough to open without tools. They’d also be heavier than aluminum cans. All that weight would really add up when we’re talking about large trucks delivering thousands of cans per load.
