The drum set is a jazz instrument - but you can play any style of music on it. The “Jazz Bass" was, in fact, played on more hit pop tunes than you can count; the "Jazz Snare" may enjoy equally legendary status one day. Designed to be affordable without any compromise in its playability or sonic footprint, the Peter Erskine Jazz Snare by TAMA is a unique 14”x4.5" drum, made of Spruce and Maple plies with a reinforcing ring on the batter side only. The drum whispers and shouts, with brilliant focus and snap. The sensitivity provided by the shallow depth is balanced by the 8-lug design which allows for a low fundamental body of sound. The drum follows your every command and will take you to new places, too. Every drummer should have a "Jazz Snare" as part of their collection; the beautiful wood/gloss finish assures compatibility with any drum set.

Well, glad to see a more "standard size" snare drum from Peter Erskine. I sincerely hope his previous 10" signature snare will be discontinued. Make room for something similar and more affordable in the SLP line. Loved the project this "soprano" snare, but didn't like the price. It seems so remote from the market that I have actually not seen a decent review of it online.

A lovely looking snare and seems to have a pleasant sound that definitely sounds 'jazzy' to me. Peter Erskine seemed to be playing the STAR Zebrawood in a lot of your previous videos. Unfortunately that model seemed to be suddenly discontinued, just disappeared from your website. Would be interesting to know why, maybe a difficult wood to work with or to get hold of like bubinga? The Zebrawood is the best Tama drum I've heard, has such a unique sound, it has that warm wood snare sound but a metallic ring and powerful crack. When I saw it disappeared from the Tama website and was suddenly out of stock on UK retailer websites I managed to get an ex-demo model from a German drumshop on eBay. My first high end snare and it's worth the high price, but it's a shame it was discontinued. I would've loved to have got one that was brand new but I'm very happy I managed to get one at all. It looks incredible too. This Jazz Snare also looks great and will be interesting to see the 'affordable' price compared to the solid & stave STAR models that are pricey. I also found that there was a STAR solid Spruce that was also discontinued like the Zebrawood, but much longer ago. The SLP Fat Spruce model sounds a lot more loud and agressive and I preferred the SLP Bold Spotted Gum for that kind of sound based on the demos I've watched (very tempted to get that for playing rock styles). But for jazz and more laid back music it's cool to see this spruce-based snare designed to have a clear, not over the top pleasant sound.

@@roybeckerman9253I passed on the Fat Spruce but I did get the Bold Spotted Gum which I really like. I’ve been buying older Made In Japan Starclassic snares whenever I find one in tip top condition. If I’m thinking of buying a Signature snare which is more than likely close to $1000 or a Star Reserve snare I’d rather put the $$$$ towards a Star Walnut kit. Between the Fat Spruce or Kapur SLP snares I’d more than likely go with the Fat Spruce.
