This scene has always confuse me. Not the fight. The aftermath. The reaction of MJ and some of the other people. Here's an obvious aggressor (be he a bully or not), trying to potentially end the life of another student. Said student avoids, blocks and deflects the aggressors attacks. Although it may be embarrassing to the aggressor, the defender never actually hurts or even tries to hurt his opponent, until it becomes obvious the aggressor is not going to stop. A single punch - as opposed to a total thrashing and repeated punches - ends the fight. MJ looks upset with Peter. Osborne calls him a freak. Others appear disappointed. IMO the reactions after the fight destroyed the entire scene. When younger, I went to public and private schools. I also attended schools in the US and in Europe. I always avoided dating anyone anywhere near where I worked, lived or attended school (Break up with that person and you see them every day?). But, if they went to a different school, you do not have the daily uncomfortable break-up situations. Hence, I also have experiences with other schools, I did not attend, as well. In every school I have ever seen or even heard about, not one single person would have reacted like they did in this movie. Sure, some may have felt sorry for Flash, but not one single person would have dared to say a single negative words to someone who kicked his ass! Besides... what the heck did Peter do that was worthy of being called a freak? He didn't let Flash beat him up? Sure it's all make-believe... a comic book story. But there is the concept of getting lost in an imaginary reality. But the reaction to the fight, it sort of ruins the on-screen reality we are trying to accept.

I read Bruce Campbell's biography of him and Sam Raimi and Sam's brother breaking into filmmaking (called themselves "the Michigan Mafia") with the Evil Dead movies. Bruce said Sam had a tendency to abuse his actors, as in the original Evil Dead film, when Sam strapped Bruce into a frame on the front of Sam's car (the same one seen in "Army of Darkness.") and drove like mad through the woods to get that "onrushing demon" effect. Sam kept it up in "Spider-Man" with Toby as well. When Toby falls and is hit multiple times by a book bag as people go by -- that was Sam laying it to Toby.

This is easily one of the best scenes in all of the superheros movies to ever be released. No world-ending cataclysm to stop, no invading alien armies to repel; just a nerdy, confused high school kid accidentally using his new-found powers to defend himself against the schoolyard bully.

I like Tobey’s spider sense, it’s so cool, I like how it hones in on all the possible dangers and then finally focuses on the most dangerous one. I also like that it’s different from Andrew’s and Tom’s and vice versa. Like Tom’s is more ambient and sudden like he’s unsure and then he trusts his instincts. Andrew’s is sort of like Tobey’s but it seems more sharp and everything around him is frozen so he himself can assess the situation and has all the time he needs to come up with a solution

@Oreofe Idowu , really, the nostalgia excuse? without tobey, we wouldn’t have gotten andrew, or tom. tobey’s movies make the audiance feel, laugh, cry, invested. it has the theme of consequences and responsibility. And sam rami caught the idea of organic webbing because James Cameron almost made a spider-man movie with Leonardo DiCaprio. He also explained that it wouldn’t make sense that a high schooler would be able to create that device, and that organic webbing would be an easier option. I’m a fan of tobey and andrew, but i seriously hate it when people blast at fans that like the rami triology, or use that lame nostalgia excuse.
