B Jordan, I totally agree. I think a lot of people like to skip over it because it confronts a very real heart condition in the body of Christ. It's personally one of my favs and the music climax in it just adds to the intensity of the message.

What happened to Phil Joel?
@abankse834 жыл бұрын
elilovestrains This isn’t the Newsboys. It’s just Peter Furler & his band (along with Paul Colman & Jimmy Abegg on guitars). Pete was at EasterFest as part of Steve Taylor and the Perfect Foil. While there him & his band were part of the lineup of artists.

Wow! Sting and The Police were idols, IDOLS, in my broken life before I met Jesus. Fast forward, years upon years later, I am recouping after being hit by a car. I have been questioning why I am even still on this earth. So, I watch KZbin. See a live Christian concert from someone “not ashamed to speak the name of Jesus Christ,” and I am excited to just worship along. However, within a few minutes, I hear this Believer singing “we are spirits in a material world.” Real nice. Don’t worry, I turned it off. Too many memories associated with the tunes presented by Sting and his philosophy concerning living life on this realm. The sad part, I hear Peter sing the song, but then I want to get the real fix; and, before I know it, hours later, I am entrenched and impressed by the very band’s philosophy the Lord delivered me from. So, based on past experiences, I turned it off. I choose to feed my spirit not satisfy my fading existence: this is not my home.

CE! I was very confused by that as well

Sherri Barbee, Thanks for understanding. This response is longer than planned. Sometimes people in church settings, or those raised in church settings, feel they are considered lesser by the world’s standards. Therefore, some feel they can show they are “cool” or are just as good by adapting, or in this case, able to play impressive tunes by leading bands. I know, from my experience in Nashville, how many CCM artist would do a concert, a worship concert, but share about their love towards “the great band the Beatles.” So, I simply got tired of attending concerts, at churches, small venues, and some arena shows, where I went there to celebrate the Lord, but left there trying to forget a song by the Beatles. Sadly, when this would happen, I not only remembered the songs that I once LOVED, I would also remember what was happening in my wild, Hippieish, pot smoking, suicidal, porn-watching unsaved life. See, many of the raised in church people may recall listening to such songs as a fun memory of hearing something they were not supposed to listen to; a joyful taste of rebellion. However, I was raised in a liberal environment, and those tunes were our anthems. My mother was into witchcraft, we also had statues honoring other “gods” on display in our home, and the music produced by these leading bands complemented our liberal stances; the songs were played all of the time in our home. But my uncle, the sole Believer in our family, would give us Christian albums to listen to and enjoy. At first they collected dust. But within five years of receiving those albums, my older sister and I got saved! Therefore, if we went to a Christian music concert when we were first saved and heard songs from the band The Police, we would probably still struggle with many things this sick world fed us. However, when we were rescued by the Lord, we were introduced to music by bands and musicians like Keith Green. So, we learned the power of “No Compromise” as a foundation in Christ. Plus, I knew what this world’s standards are capable of leveling on a person. Therefore, when I was set free, I was “free indeed” from all the falsehood camouflaged in music, “entertainment,” and philosophies based on this world’s standards. Do I struggle? Yes indeed! That is why I must guard what I see, hear, and do because Jesus set me free! So, I seek to follow his way in EVERYTHING! Sorry for the essay. Blessings!
