I've seen perhaps a half-dozen versions of this song in various live performances and it always brings tears to my eyes. The way Peter includes several people of different cultures who sing in different languages is moving to me, and I think it captures what humanity is all about... or at least, what it should be about. this reminds me off my wife of 25 years, after my father passed away i suffered a stroke, took my wife to Mexico for her 50th, returned and suffered more illness, Chronic Kidney Disease. PG is a genius. I have followed his entire career. When he played Hamilton, I was a university student. I stood fifth or sixth in line overnight on the sidewalk. Say a stay on 13 hours. If you left the line, you left it. And then back to the end of line. A surreal experience. Well worth it! And I was rewarded with great seats Then a great surreal concert. "Mercy Street" is, without doubt, my favorite song, by my favorite artist, in honor of one of my mother's poems. She was the poet Anne Sexton, to whom the performance is dedicated. I know Mom would be awash in admiration and gratitude were she to hear it now, or to have heard it at its debut.
