@@SteveToccoDrummer I thought it would just because I was getting old… The 70s 80s and 90s had some of the most amazing musicians and material. Everybody today is standing (precariously) on the shoulders of giants. Now, in the days where everybody is autotune and supported by a drum machine, they are all derivative of the great stuff we grew up with. Our parents thought that their music was the best. I think my music was the best. Used to think it was age, but no… It's just a fact!

I think I have already commented on this before. I've watched several of your drum covers. You're a natural-born player. Completely fluid style which I always strived to achieve. I used to be a major Rush fanatic, so fluid playing wasn't something that came naturally to me through my inspirations. It was only later in my playing that I started appreciating the value and depth that smooth fluid motion played in the overall sound of a performance. Nothing herky-jerky, which I was guilty of. Smooth natural flowing motions… Letting the stick land where it wants. I had just started getting pretty good at this when I suffered a spinal cord injury. So, no more drumming for me! Still, I'm inspired and I live vicariously through guys and gals like yourself. Well done, man… VERY well done!
@SteveToccoDrummer3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your thoughtful, supportive comment. I was also a Rush fanatic when I first started playing drums back in 1979 (when I was 18). I learned to play drums quickly because the first songs I learned were Rush and other prog rock/fusion genres. Of the 450+ songs on my channel, I only have one Rush song. I am very sorry to hear of your spinal cord injury. It seems like you don't allow your injury to stifle the enjoyment you get out of life. I am inspired by your upbeat, positive attitude. I wish all the best to you, my KZbin friend and fellow drummer!
@kennethphillips22133 жыл бұрын
@@SteveToccoDrummer I try to stay upbeat, but it's difficult at times. Being a drummer, you can understand or at least imagine what it means to have the ability to do that kind of thing taken away from you. I was injured when I was 33 years old. I'll be 47 this April. I've only been able to listen to music again in the last four years. Just really beginning to appreciate it again. Anyway… I never picked up on the subtle things being played on the drum kit in this song until only recently. Watching other people play it on KZbin is really help me understand what was really going on within the drum kit. I always assumed that those little things being played in the background were just the percussion/talking drum parts. Even watching Manu Katche playing live, he plays it nothing like he did on the album. Probably because he's not playing with a percussionist. Anyway… Again, great job. Also really enjoyed your cover of Christopher Cross tunes. Those songs really take me back.

I told you I would share my video of doing "In Your Eyes" with my kids for my anniversary a couple years ago, but that never transpired (for many reasons that I'm not going to go into because, it's a long and boring explanation). However, this past June we celebrated our 25th Anniversary, and instead of doing a cover, I wrote and recorded an entire song for my wife.
