It's funny because I was 21 when this song came out and I really didn't pay attention to it. I sure as hell didn't know what it was about lol. Now Harry Styles did a magnificent cover of it and I'm a fan of Peter and love the song. Such undercover naughty lyrics.

Probably not miming, more like the audio was replaced afterwards. Happens a fair bit with live releases, things get "corrected" to sound decent enough quality as recording live can be tricky, especially getting an isolated sound like this, especially back in 1987.

Peter's also a perfectionist so he'd rather have bits that went better from other shows spliced together.

+Bolteus Wireless stage technology was already common in the second half of the 80s + a longer time before, why should Peter Gabriel have "manipulated" his great voice afterwards in the studio? He just has this voice.

+S.R.H. Woodstock II was in 1994 + not in 1987. Of course even a great human singing voice undergoes changes within life or do some psycho idiots in the comments believe that P.G. will retain his once great voice till he's 80 years old? Such psychos don't have a clue about anything + simply spread their stupid conspiracy theories here in the KZbin comments because they are bored nobodies who know nothing except their own psycho quirks. I watched a documentary on the "science fiction" writer Philip K. Dick on German TV yesterday + he was exactly such a psycho who knew almost nothing but his own paranoid "reality". "Of course" he died prematurely by a stroke at the age of 54 in 1982 (during Ridley Scott's film shooting for "Blade Runner" after his SF novel "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?"), he had lived a largely unhealthy life, in the 70s he ignored all advices of his doctors + last but not least he had always married the wrong women. In the 70s he felt persecuted by CIA + KGB at the same time. Though he was an extremely "good-looking" man, he must have been one of the unhappiest people who ever lived on earth. In 1972 he went as far as to accuse his Science Fiction writer colleague Thomas Disch of having described "secret informations" of "foreign powers" against him in his very satirical SF novel "Camp Concentration" (1968). One year later he committed a suicide attempt. Why do I comment this? Because many people who spread all kinds of absurd theories here in the KZbin comments are similar cases.....!

+S.R.H. Of course PG may have probably overdubbed his voice later in the studio...but all kinds of rock musicians have always done that after live recordings (even in the 60s/70s)...there's ABSOLUTELY NOTHING UNUSUAL WITH THAT. People who are huffy because of such "methods" are silly purists.
@andrewc34586 жыл бұрын
P.G. has even admitted to doing so, citing his own "perfectionist" streak. He even signed a note on one of his early albums "Peter Perfect".

Doing a bit of googling, it sounds like Pete overdubs his live performances for dvds/video release. So he's not lip syncing, but the live vocal has been replaced later with a studio recording. That'd explain why his head turns away from the mic sometimes while he's sustaining the note in the recording.

This is one of a million awesome songs from the 1980's. How many awesome songs have come from the 2010's and 2020's??? Zero. Why is that?
