A fantasticic and incredibly interesting half hour. Its such a pity that Talk Radio/TV now lowers its quality for a few hours each evening. Intellects like Hitchens are so much more stimulating than egoes like Morgan.

I know well what the Ukrainians were doing but he ignores the efforts of putin which sowed nationalism because of the Ukrainians desire to join the EU and got both sides attacking each other in the first place many Ukrainians who didn't comply with the breakaway nationalists in Eastern ukraine were driven out.. And this invasion has brought the slaughter to a whole new scale

Great to see/hear Peter in a studio with proper sound/mics etc. I never liked the Zoom thing [or whatever it's called], as the sound was poor. Roads to Freedom was one of those classic philosophical serials that I tried to watch as a youth. One felt that quality TV was a great treat back then - even if one couldn't grasp all its meaning. I haven't seen anything - especially drama, on the TV in recent years that I would consider anything other than heavily slanted 'lecturing' on how to think.

The poor performance of the Russian army coupled with Ukraine's army performing above expectation has monumentally gotten us out of jail in my view. Putin knows this gamble has backfired spectacularly and it remains to be seen how he will manage to claim victory whilst accepting defeat. My suspicion is that the West will eventually change direction and lean on Zelensky to concede territory to end the war, giving Putin his out and allowing both sides to claim victory (The West and Putin that is) while poor old Zelensky and the Ukraine are left with lost territory, a smashed country and massive debts incurred to Western powers that they'll be paying off until the end of time. The only majorly advantageous side effect for us is that I think China will really think twice about Taiwan now. They have a massive army but it has not been battle tested. Taiwan could turn into their version of the Ukraine, diminishing their place globally, weakening the threat of their military might and trashing their economy. We should consider ourselves very lucky to be coming through this on top after needlessly getting involved, it could have been Jellicoe losing the war in an afternoon.

@@robertcook2572 Not in my book. Negotiating with bullies is never wise, even if it means physical harm. The inner knowledge of your own moral cowardice makes you feel small and helpless, plus the bully always comes back for more anyway. If Ukraine had compromised on the Donbas, the Russians would eventually want the same in other nation states, then more land in Ukraine. Each time they would wish they had done something to defend themselves, but would be ever more fearful of doing so. As for us in the West, what would we do if Putin attacked Romania, Estonia, or Poland-should we continue to compromise ? Do we want this blood thirsty jackal dominating parts of Western Europe ? Who really want to live in such a fearful regime ?
